Tote Bag question-fusible Pellon
I"m working on a tote bag now and put fusible Pellon fleece on the back of the main fabric. The pattern also calls for fusible interfacing on the lining. The supply list calls for fusible batting, and fusible interfacing. I bought Pellon fusible fleece. I dont' have any fusible interfacing that I can find. Do i really need it?
this is a Lazy Girl design, Margo handbag #127. |
if you put pellon fusible you don't need to add the other stuff
that is the really stiff fusible isn't it? |
I think the second fusible- the interfacing is to stiffen up the fabric so if you don't use it , the lining might be limp- so really just a personal choice if you can live with a limp lining, skip it :) Me I figure no one is looking at the lining so.... I wouldn't worry about it

well i was wondering about that. the Pellon is fusible fleece. good for tote bags and not too stiff. i actually used it once to make snowmen on a quilt. or could be lambs too.
anyway, i guess i need to ck for a zipper and if i dont' have one, go buy that and interfacing. for a second there i was thinking she wanted me to do the Pellon fleece twice and that would have been too much. thanks. found this http://www.lazygirldesigns.com/blog/...ng-and-batting |
I have made bags where the pattern called for the fusible fleece (Pellon 787F) on the outside of the bag and on the lining. You might try doing a small sample with the layer of fleece on each one and sew them together to see if it is too thick for you.

I use 987F and Decorbond. It gives the bag a nice, more professional look.

I just bought some Pellon fusible interfacing called Craft fuse. it's has more body than the very soft interfacing i found in my sewing room. So time will tell. also changed the trim i want to put on the bag. i chickened out on using the looped ribbon I already had and got some tassel balls instead. more subdued hopefully. when done, i'll post a photo.

I use the Pellon fleece (not fusible but otherwise the same) in most of my bags, and I use quilter's cotton lining without anything to stiffen the lining. I'm very happy with the results that way.

Rats in a hat!! guess what I did.... yes, I put the zipper in wrong! perfect but wrong. I knew that would happen. Now to figure out if I must take both sides out or just one. I guess both but would love something about this pattern to go easily. Grrrrr.
