Please can you help? I have to make a normal straight tote, for a friend, but she wants to have a divider in the bag. How do I do this, or is there a free pattern that could help me.

I'd probably draw up my own pattern.
But here's how I picture it, in miniature. Imagine 2 brown paper lunch bags, opened up, put them next to each other with front sides touching, sew together the sides that are touching (making the divider). Then add your handles. I hope that's clear. You've given me the itch. I think I'll try to make one. |
I made a bag with a divider once. It had an extra panel sewn in the inside between the front and back sections. It didn't go down into the bottom seam, but I think that you could add it. You have to be careful because with the fusable fleece the layers are already thick. I like the fusable fleece because it gives great stability to the bag.

Here's a beautiful one on this blog, part 2 is in the archives listing to the right on the blog.

Many thanks for all your info re: the tote with a divider. I have checked out the patterns and I think they will be fine. I was interested to see you are from OZ and WA. I was there in 2003 and 2007 and stayed in Jerramungup ( what a place !!), but my friends have now moved to Coolup, so will be back over to see them in 2013.
Thanks again. Chris. |
Thanks for your help with the patterns for the tote with a divider. I will be making them for myself and for my friend who is very unsure on some patterns.
Take care and regards to BC, a beautiful province. Chris. |
