That's Minnesota except for the Senator war we went through from November, 2008 to May, 2009. I mean, we had two inches of snow yesterday - fourth season starting. But then, we will have Indian Summer and that is the time we pull the shorts out again, for a few days, only to be lambasted with another storm. The springs are beautiful right down to the dandelions, the summers are warm/hot with mosquitos the size of B-52s, the autumns are crisp with beautiful colored leaves, especially the maple and sumac, the winters are cold, crisp, cold, icy, cold, I don't really like winter that much. Only until the day after Christmas. Then it is down hill until March.

Iowa is pretty much like Minnesota.

Excuse me, where do you find the little sewing people like you have on your notes and there is someone else has one where the little lady is sitting sewing on a quilt. They are so sweet. Edie

Carolina Beach, NC! A great not too crowded beach near a great middle sized city (Willmington). Tons of things to do and NO SNOW!!!!!

Downtown New York City. Love it.
Downtown Charleston, S.Carolina. Dripping with history and mansions.
Sedona, Arizona. Fantastically beautiful town.

Edie what is or are the "Amana Colonies" in Iowa? Is it a town? Are they a special type of place? It's an unusual name.

LOL, I went through this question last year. Was living in Pennsylvania but desperately missing the snowy midwestern winters of my growing up years. I traveled a bit, didn't choose any of the places I went to, then asked myself if I could live anywhere I wanted - because at that time, I could - where would it be? (Anywhere in the US, anyway. Would choose England or Scotland, but wouldn't be allowed to stay or to work without citizenship.) LOL, and after all that, I decided it was Pennsylvania and came back. I only wish it had a metro area in the snow belt!

Although I'm in Central PA right now, I prefer Philly and may well move back there.

What other places? I'm from Michigan, and if it weren't hurting so badly, I'd love to move back to Ann Arbor, where I went to college.

Would love to live for a year or two in Los Angeles or Pasadena, but not permanently.

I also have a Southern streak and would love a place in Birmingham, Alabama or maybe its suburb, Homewood. Or maybe a small farmlet a bit farther out.

If I could live anywhere, though, I'd pick Scotland or England. Not sure what part.

Google Amana C olonies - read the history on it. Very interesting. I love it there. My husband's family originated there in 1854. It is a soul-restoring area, great food, beautiful furniture hand made there, wine like you wouldn't believe. It is wonderful. Edie

Being from Michigan and hating winters, I'd like to live in San Diego or northern, CA or somewhere in North Carolina.

We just moved a little over a year ago and I have to think this is the best place for me.

We are in Pine Grove, Ca. The elevation is 2600 feet so we are above the fog (quite a problem in CA in the "valley") and below the snow. Occasionally, we get a dusting of snow but not enough to be a problem.

I love the wildlife here--turkeys, squirrels, deer and some other critters that only come out when it's dark........mainly I'm referring to the raccoons who love to dig in my flower pots and the mountian lion who lives around and I try to avoid (although we keep hearing about people who have seen him and I found two of his dinners--down deer--the last six months) The trees are wonderful having been a valley dweller for longer than I care to remember: pine, oak, cedar, madrone, manzanita....

The weather is beautiful, the people are friendly and best of all the quilt guild here is spectacular----

What more could you want--everybody come visit--okay? We've been building the house for five years and yes it is almost done.....

I grew up in, and always lived in Michigan. And I HATE Winter. Snow is pretty for the first day or so, then it's just cold.

When DH and I drove to Gatlinburg TN for our honeymoon 4 1/2 years ago, as soon as we crossed into Kentucky I felt as if I was coming home.... I've stayed down there twice in my life, and it just seems as it's where I'm meant to be. If only I could talk all my kids into moving down there too, so I could!

Not too many years ago, I would have said San Francisco....I LOVE that city!!! But now that I've moved to the country, I can't imagine living with all the crowds!! If I win the lottery, maybe I'll rent a place there for 6 months and REALLY get it out of my system...LOL :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Another thought is I'd like to explore San Antonio more. I liked what I saw --- the whole ONE day of it!!

One town I'd like to live in now......Halfway, Oregon!!! SMALL, remote, sweet town! I visit it every year and go to their fabulous quilt shop. It's on the border of eastern Oregon and Idaho....... :mrgreen:

Well, all you cold Michiganders -- I feel your pain, as that's where I'm from, too. The weather here in SoCal is much better, and I do love living here...downside is, it's very expensive to live here :( I'd like to find a happy medium -- nice warm weather year-round (and near the ocean), but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If anyone knows of such a place, let me know ;)

If my kids and grands would move too... :wink: it would be a rural countryside, within 3-4 hours of a bigger city, warm balmy climate, NO mosquitos, tornadoes or hurricanes!!! Yep, that would be my idea of paradise!!! :D :D :D

I guess I'm where I've didn't know I'd love to live, but it's the house I live in now, on the corner where the house is located, and in the neighborhood where the corner is...at the foot of Mission Peak.

Frankly, it's anywhere that my husband lives and within a 1-day round-trip drive from either of our sons.

I HATE HATE WINTER! I would love to live anywhere but where I am in Sioux Lookout, ON Canada.

I really like it here where I am in Southern California. I have the beach 10 min away, the mountains less than an hour, Los Angeles and Hollywood is 35 min south of me if I want plays or night life, I have fresh fruits and vegetables grown around me all year round, the weather is perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Only thing is, it's expensive!

I would love to build a house on our property in Pagosa Springs Colorado and live there 5 months of the year to really be out in the country!

We live right outside of Sacramento, CA. Country flavor (and smells) with close contact to civilization and all its amenities. I love living here. Wouldn't mind having a vacation home on a carribean island or by the ocean. (Ah, I dream)

I would really love to live in Williamsburg, VA. We spent some time in the area while visiting Colonial Williamsburg and I just love the place.

Stroudsburg, PA would be great, too. It's a lovely little town and Pocono Sew & Vac is there (sewing machine heaven), so I'd be happy as a clam, except for the snow.

I lived in southeast Michigan for most of my life, and central NY state for the last 11 years, so actually, I'd be thrilled with just about anywhere without snow!

I'd love to live in NYC, Manhattan that is. Only would love to have someone drive me around so I wouldn't have to look for a parking space, waste time waiting for buses or subway trains or spend $'s on cabs. Also would need a big infusion of cash to do and see everything.

So, I'm settling for living in Jersey and traveling there by train and sometimes car. I'll be there on the 24th to see South Pacific (sister Pat and I are taking sister Carol for her 60th B-day) and in early November to see Don Giovanni at the NYC Opera with a friend, using a gift certificate for this. I would live right where I do now - Central CA - near Pismo Beach. It doesn't get much better than here. I live about 10 minutes from the beach with a view of the mountains.

I'm half way between San Francisco and LA on the coast.

Well this is a interesting question....cause i did just that about 2 yrs ago...Born & raised in calif. Lived in seattle for approx 12 yr came back to San diego calif. where I thought I was pretty darn happy running my own interior plant service business & managing apts. Then one by one my kids started moving out of Ca. so one day i said WHY am I still here working my rear off just to be able to live here...so I tried Las Vegas as thats where my youngest moved to....hated it...its very true nice place to visit but for someone who likes being outside its awful. I had already visited Ks. where my other daughter & grand girls live....pretty but no that wouldn't do either so one day i took a 2.5 hr drive from Las Vegas to Cedar City Ut and as someone else mentioned I instantly had that "I am home feeling" a yr later I moved here and love every minute of it. Now the only thing I would change is I would make a law that says your kids have to live close by...and I do miss having real friends close by..but i love the changing of the seasons, and Cedar is a small town and I like that...so I guess I am where I wanna be.

I'd like to live somewhere where I could have some land and 4 seasons. DH spent his early years on his grandmother's farm so I'd really love to have land especially for him. I have to have 4 defined seasons (I could never live in California again)

BTW -- for my fellow Michiganders -- do you truly know Michigan's 4 seasons? If not, here they are:

1. Almost winter
2. Winter
3. Still winter
4. Construction

I would stay right where I am. I love the four seasons and this is home with nearly my whole family living here.

I hate, hate, hate, summer!! I live in inland central California where summer is 6-8 months long. 6 months of 90-100 degree weather, yuk. One month of beautiful fall, then comes winter, no its not super cold, but we get socked in with heavy wet fog, the kind where you can't see across the street, for 4 months. Then comes spring, for maybe a month, and we are again zapped by heat. I have never lived in snow but it sounds like heaven after months of searing heat. My husband retired last year and we do want to leave CA. We want to buy some land, it's too expensive here. We have visited Western North Carolina, how beautiful that was, and the finger lakes of New York, we loved it there too. Even though I love the "idea" of snow, I know that it isn't quite so wonderful as I picture it. So, HELP, all of you who live in the "perfect" place!!!

Check out Minnesota. We are a friendly state. We have all four seasons - marvelous springs, sultry summers, beautiful autumns and bone chilling winters (but not too bad the last few years). We are known for our Minnesota Nice, which we are and the cost of living is pretty darn good. Good bargains around here! We, too, are retired, at least my husband is, since 1993 - we wives never retire - and enjoy our state. The lakes up north, Ely, Silver Bay, Lake Mille Lacs. Too many to mention - 10,000 of them, you know!~ Actually, there are more than 10,000! Not to mention the famous LUTEFISK!Please to google Lutefisk Lament.
