I have used Tea Tree Oil mixed with REGULAR Listerine. Works fabulous! Smell is debatable!

my hubby took pills of some kind, didn't work. then tried tea tree oil a long time, didn't work. he's 87 and not worried about it now.

Dr Oz and even my foot specialist says use Vicks Vapor rub on them.

I have had this problem for decades too. I've sort of accepted that I'll be stuck with it forever because my doctor doesn't want me taking the pills for it. My problem is finding something strong enough to cut my big toenails which have gotten very thick. I get nervous when someone else messes with them so it has to be something I can use myself. What do other people use??

Hmmm, my husband has had fungus on his toenails for decades. he just lost the top section of his large toenail. still has nail but it's ugly as all get out!! i just bought some tea tree oil soak for his feet. he's diabetic and can hardly walk now, so a foot soak will help. I may try this too!

Ok, I'm going to tell you something gross, but it works.
The anti-fungal medicines (not the pills, I don't think) that you're applying have uric acid in them that comes from female horse pee. When I was a manicurist, I would tell everyone who had some sort of foot-fungus to pee while they were in the shower. Don't think about it, just do it. |
I too have had this problem, treated it myself as I didn't want to deal with the problems of the Lamasil. I file (and keep doing it) down the thick nail and a quick soak with diluted bleach. I tried the Tea Tree oil - really wanted it to work, but it didn't. I have to always file down the nail - the whole surface, not just the top, I use the coarse file made for acrylic nails - they are black usually. I use the bleach while the nail is freshly filed - it has worked well for several years now. Good luck!

I just started on Lamisil this week. My manicurist recommended tea tree oil but the smell of it made me sick. I tried it at night and had to get up and wash my feet because of the smell. Doctor said you need to treat for months and months because you have to wait for the whole nail to grow out. My doctor said it is becoming really common from some of the pedicure places not being as sterile as they should be. I have switched to a place that uses disposable foot soak tubs and has a sterilizer for her impliments. Hopefully it will clear up.

I would match DH's toenails against anyone's in an ugly toenail contest. Now mine are getting to look the same. The fungi must be migrating in bed at night.
The crappy thing about getting old - toenail fungus. The good thing about getting old - very few people are checking to see how cute your toes are anymore. |
