My DD Kelly took these pictures of the Hudson River during Tropical Storm at Rhinecliff, NY at 1pm Sunday, Aug 29. The cement near where she's standing is USUALLY about 4-5 feet ABOVE the river, depending on the tide.
The second picture shows waves breaking on the shore - almost like waves breaking on a beach.
The third picture shows the Kingston Lighthouse on the other side of the river. It sticks out into the river - behind it there is a sheltered harbor that goes quite a way inland. The last couple of days before the storm, Kelly saw a lot of small boats heading in there. It is too shallow for large boats. Larger boats were heading farther north upriver.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. My mom lives in Ulster County -- I have been keeping in contact with her via the occasional text (no power and she's saving battery life) but she hasn't sent any pics yet. I know all those spots well where your daughter was; I take the train into Rhinecliff all the time when visiting my mom. Its scary to see the river like that.

Meemersmom - yes indeed - you do know that place - she was standing near the stairs over the tracks by the Rhinecliff Hotel. She says the Hotel and all the houses along the river right there are okay - the water came roaring down the roads to the river, but none of the houses were flooded. At one point, she saw water coming OUT of a storm drain!
