24 Mondays? More time for crafting and quilting? I retired from teaching early, too, only to find myself busier than before! EVen in a new community and just a few friends...so set aside one dedicated time to craft/sew for each week and then stick to it. Thursday is my "day off the reservation." I get to do what I want all day. During the school year, I go to a Bible Study in the AM, then the rest of the day I go shopping, come home and sew, read, or take a nap. But everyone knows they can't count on me for anything on Thursday. So pick your day and stick with it! Otherwise, you'll find that your time still is not your own. Congrats on making it to retirement. You're going to love your 'new' life!

Hats off to the new retirees!!:thumbup: Coopah is so right!! In 1998, I retired after 33 years of teaching (mostly first grade). I still miss it but my time has been filled to the max. In my mom's words, "The community will grab you." And it's a great thing, but sometimes it leaves little "extra" time for yourself and your love of quilting. I think coopah's advice to set aside one day for yourself is awesome.

Teaching is my 2nd career, and I am eligible to retire at the semester in December (last day would be Dec 19, my grandson's FIRST b-day) or in June, after 18 years. I am sooo tempted to go in December. I teach middle school science at my neighborhood school, and this year I'm just getting kind of tired - love the kids but other things are starting to wear on me. BTW, my 26 yo son walked past his 4th grade teacher in a store today. He did not recognize her at first, but she knew HIM, and said he still looked the same, only 6'3" now. :-) Made his day!

Jan congrats also to you. I have not worked since Dec 31,2013 and I love it. I still have a couple of former pts call me to say hello and a 93 yr old I visit in the nursing home. Funny thing, one of my brothers has a closed head injury and he told my niece that I say I am a nurse but I am not. He believes this, since I no longer work.
I think you are always a teacher, nurse, etc. whether you are still on the pay roll or not.

It took me a long time to decide to retire and now I wonder why I was so reluctant. I was a professor at a university and loved it but when I was finally done I walked away and never looked back. Retirement has been so fulfilling for me and I really really like being able to do what I want to do, when I want to do it, like being on Quilting Board in the morning rather than rushing around to get out the door. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. It will be fun if you want it to be.

I have 27 more Mondays until my retirement from 38 years of teaching math. Only 222 more days and that includes weekends and holidays.

Congratulations to all on there retirement. I have been retired for 10 years and still not finished my to do list. You will love your free time.

I first want to congratulate everyone who has worked for so many years in all of those different jobs of life. I also worked 40 years before I retired. I am now 78 years old and have been retired for 18 years. At first it is scary, will we have the money to retire, what am I going to do with my time and will miss all of the people, but I found a charity and worked hard at it and still am enjoying my retirement. I count my blessings every day that I still have my health and have had a wonderful retirement.
