DH and I are going up to visit DS this weekend. He's in college in Ann Arbor. We asked him if he's seen much of Michigan yet, and he said no.

So... we have Saturday and Sunday to spend, starting out from Ann Arbor.

Any suggestions?

I'm sure DH and DS will not want to go visit fabric shops.

Well-non-quilting-related, Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford are well worth the visit and less than an hour away.

Thanks! We saw the Ford musem in February but the village was not open then.

Great museum, BTW. Loved the huge locomotive... because my Dad used to work for the railroad.

You could always go north, should be pretty this time of year. The Traverse City area is really nice. The Lelanau Penisula by Traverse City will remind you of Cape Cod but on Lake Michigan. Lots of little shops and restaurants. Petosky is also a pretty little town with lots to do.

YES!!! Peak colors up north right now. Head on up the coast towards Traverse City and north. There are some beautiful places up there. We like to go to the little towns and check out the local culture. No chain restaurants when up there, not for us, there are sooo many smaller, locally owned shops and restaurants that are out of this world. If you are interested in a list, send me a PM. Between and to the north of 72 that runs between Kalkaska and Traverse City has several towns we love to visit. Rapid City, Belaire, Alden..... Or a little closer is the "Thumb" area, we'd love to have you. There are lots of beautiful places all along M25. Grindstone city, Harbor Beach, Lexington, Bayport, Sebewaing, and all the way around to Bay City. Then if still time, you can just head up the other side of the bay to Pinconning and Tawas City. Hope you have a Great time!!

When you come into Michigan stop at the first reststop. It is the information center for the state and has everything. Pick what area of the state you want to visit and look at all the brochures. No matter where in Michigan you go, you can't go wrong. I am lucky to live in a beautiful state with so much to do. Have fun! I live between Ann Arbor and Brighton and love it here! The Village would be great-suppose to be a beautiful week-end.

I would say go to Frankenmouth as your first choice of things to do. It will take a day to adequately explore all the shops. If you go, make sure to visit Bronner's and Zehnder's. Frankenmouth is very popular so you'll start seeing billboards when you hit the state line. Second choice would be Greenfield Village. That would also take pretty much a whole day. If neither of those appeal to you, then I would suggest The Detroit Institute of Arts (in Detroit), the waterfront in Port Huron, the Eastern Market (in Detroit) or the Detroit Zoo (in Royal Oak). Have fun.

If you are going to Frankenmuth, don't forget to visit Birchrun--150+ outlet stores in one location.

DS *does* want to visit Frankenmuth.

I think I read online that they are having a crab and lobster festival... has anyone been to that?
