So what exactly is the power of cheese? Does it give you gas, or bind you up? Just wondering,

OK, now that I have poked fun at the Funky Monkey, I used to have one of these monster dogs. The people we bought this farm from moved out and left it here, but he was mean and a neighborhood nuisance, so off to the Great Pyraneese rescue he went.

He needed a job besides terrorizing the neighbor's cattle. A family with a flock of sheep was thrilled to have him. Everyone ended up happy with that one, Dakota most of all.

Kara 05-06-2010 10:17 AM

He is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL! You can tell he loves her.
I'm thinking you might need to get him a saddle...

Marjpf 05-06-2010 10:18 AM

At that size, good thing he's a love bug!

ginnie6 05-06-2010 10:49 AM

yes without a job they can be a handful. Tucker does double duty. He has the children to guard and a flock of chickens and a few ducks. And of course his cats. He keeps them straight that they belong outside and not in the house! I never worry about the kids with him out with them.....no one comes in the yard! And since we have had a pyr we've not lost chickens to the neighborhood dogs or racoons.

Pam 05-06-2010 11:36 AM

Yah, darn 'coons got in our hen house and wiped out my hens after Dakota left. I felt terrible, but I spent more on chicken feed than I have ever spent on eggs! I tried my best to use them at every meal, but what in the world do you do with 3 1/2 dozen eggs a week? We only had 6 hens, but they were goodies, to be sure.

ginnie6 05-06-2010 11:48 AM

I'm to a point right now that I am selling eggs and the chickens are paying for their own feed. We can go thru 3-4 dozen eggs a week easy ourselves. Of course there are 8 of us! :-)

bev195000 05-06-2010 12:17 PM

WoW he is one big dog lol

sewjoyce 05-06-2010 12:28 PM

Wow -- that is one BIG dog!! But they are both so cute!! Maybe you should be training the puppy to a bit and saddle and daughter can ride him to school...

FunkyMonkey 05-06-2010 12:48 PM

Well "Lovin' Man" loves cheese and I can just about get him to do anything for some good swiss or harvati cheese... he is easy to please.

Gramof6 05-06-2010 01:04 PM

LOVE that pic! Beautiful DD & Dog! He is a beauty.

ginnie6 05-06-2010 01:37 PM

ok I was totally lost on the cheese there! Tucker loves butter and will do anything for a pat of butter!

CarrieAnne 05-06-2010 01:37 PM

Aw, cute! He is a huge guy! My brother has a GP named Chunky, and the cat is his Best friend!

wvdek 05-06-2010 02:27 PM

Tucker is beautiful. What a big boy he will be.

My Sebastian is now maybe 10 yrs. We adopted him when he was around 5 yrs. He is the best farm guard dog.
He will be getting groomed this weekend. He is not nearly as beautiful as your Tucker though, but he makes up for it in being a big ole teddy bear.

ginnie6 05-06-2010 02:39 PM

aww I bet he is beautiful! And yes they are big teddy bears!

The power of cheese in Mousie's life is laughter! ;)
I have to have at least a little cheese everyday and I love to spread it!

Mousie 05-06-2010 02:43 PM

Love the doggie! Bet he cleans his plate! :XD:

ginnie6 05-06-2010 02:47 PM

his plate and anyone else's he can get to! To leave anything out on the counter is an open invitation to him to eat it. I have chickens and when its cool I leave eggs on the counter. I got up one morning and all the eggs were gone.....just a few pieces of shell laying in the floor with a very guilty looking Tucker beside them!

Pam 05-06-2010 03:10 PM

Tucker the egg sucker!

ginnie6 05-06-2010 03:30 PM

lol! he doesn't suck them though! he very gently holds them in his mouth and licks them then carefully bites into them until they crack! it is hilarious watching him with one. maybe one day I'll video it!

Pam 05-06-2010 03:38 PM

Ginnie, I had a cocker spaniel that would crack open pecans, and clean them right out! I used to keep a bowl of them on the coffee table, got mad a hubby for leaving shells on the floor like he was in a bar somewhere and he had NO idea what I was talking about.

granniebj 05-06-2010 04:08 PM

Georgous dog! Looks like shes almost enjoying it!

Elizabeth-Liz 05-06-2010 05:48 PM

Beautiful dog and precious daughter. He is a bigen and will be a wonderful loving and protective. I have one that is 107 pounds, not GP, just a mix of Malamute and Golden Retriever and could not ask for a better loving and protective dog. Love the big dogs.

jabs317 05-06-2010 06:21 PM

Wow, he is a big boy

littlehud 05-06-2010 07:33 PM

That is one big dog, but what a lover. That's a great picture. Thanks for sharing with us.

ginnie6 05-07-2010 04:28 AM

He really is a gently giant. I think pyrs are just wonderful dogs. He's out second one. We lost the first last year to a heart defect. the kids were just heartbroken without him. What is really just amazing is to see this huge dog being so gentle with the kids and then ready to tear something up in the next instant. My mother and I have not gotten along in years. she has some addiction problems and dh and I decided that the best thing for the kids was not to be around it. She showed up unexpectedly at the house the other day. Tucker just sat there and growled at her anytime she got near the kids. I finally had to put him up. When she asked why he was growling at her I told her "those are HIS kids to protect." He takes his job seriously even at 9 months! So far I've not had any issues with him when I tell him someone is ok. He sniffs them and goes and lays down....not that day though.
