To all you teachers out there...God bless! I taught for many years in several different states. My daughter is a math specialist in middle schools in a major city and the stories she told me over vacation would curl your hair!!!! The disrespect by some students and parents is astonishing. I keep asking why she doesn't do something else, but she is SO committed to helping teachers help kids to learn math and raise their test scores. She said the kids really need the help and the teachers need support. That said, her two younger brothers, both in business, make way more money than she does. For me, it's not just about the money, it's about respect for her profession. I'm so glad I'm retired now.

Pam B - I am in my 34th year of teaching - most of those have been in elementary music. For the last 25 years I have been teaching 4th and 5th graders. I teach in Texas and we still expect our children to pledge to the flags (US and Texas), observe a moment of silence, and use "Yes, Ma'am" and "No, Ma'am" when appropriate. We EXPECT it, but seems like we get it less and less. There are still many joys in my job, but retirement is beginning to look mighty good! Since I have been in the same small town for so long I now have the children of children I've taught. I have a guitar class and now have guitars in the group that were used by parents many years ago. There can be so much satisfaction, but today when a child answered with, "OK, whatever" when asked to stop talking it seemed just a bit much. Sigh.......

I am a retired teacher and I must say I haven't looked back. I have a great pension, tons of leisure time and no bells to organize my day. Loved my job and the kids, but love this life phase as well. I still teach but only seniors and only one day a week.

I feel your pain .. we have had 4 day weeks at work (Oh yeah and 1-3 day workweek) since Christmas and this is our last 4 day work week .. sigh... have to go back to work and a 5 day work week ? BLAH is all I gotta say .. LOL

I taught for 30 years, but retired three years ago. I LOVE being retired! It's awesome....retire ladies, retire...don't you have your years in???
I have to admit that I miss working with the kids, but I sure don't miss all the early hours and late hours, grading, paperwork and record keeping, stress, parental griping, etc. lol

so glad those days are behind me but i know how you feel. i love retirementand hope someday you can retire

I take care of my two youngest grandsons all day five days a week, but that is a lot differant from teaching, i feel sorry for some of the teachers, and then their are those who should retire, because they have had it with the kids, parents, and the system. The parents are no help whatsoever, i think they send their kids to school because they have no babysitter, which is a shame. When i was in school you misbehaved ar did something wrong you got paddled, then you go home and get it worse. Thats what is wrong in todays society, kids get away with so much and so do the parents. Teachers are underpaid and under minded and don't desreve this kind of treatment.

Speaking from experience, be sure and have a very healthy retirement fund. Or plan to get a part time job, which I am planning to do soon. Happy quilting!!

I found out 2 weeks ago I had vacation to use or loose.... so I have been off since 27th... go back the 9th... I am almost 63 working as a dental assistant, We need the health ins. as hubby had a heart attack 10 yrs ago... I can't wait to retire..... I really struggle with the young coworkers.... cobra is looking better all the time. Quilter 1234
