Ugly Christmas Sweater

I've been invited to an Ugly Christmas Sweater party. There is a prize for the person who wears the ugliest sweater.

Do you have any ideas what I could make? I'm thinking of a green sweatshirt with a Christmas stocking sewn to the front and a stuffed animal sticking out.

Any other ideas?

Sounds good! I think the screaming red might be even worse then green.

You could always check your local thrift store. They always have some of the ugliest things I have ever seen.

haha, my girls have had an ugly sweater party the last 2 years; unfortunately they only had to look in our basement to find their outfits, lol. But their friends made a trip to Goodwill and had a ball shopping.

Check out ugly Christmas sweaters on ebay - I think some people collect them. link

If time is short I would go to a thrift.

Just had a thought - get some "brick" fabric - make a square on the front - get a small soft santa doll - sew back end to middle of square - Santa got stuck in the chimney.

These are always fun :) Thrift store is an excellent idea. Be wary of the animal in the sock. My ex-DH did that one year and everyone had to squeeze the animal to see if it made noise. haha. Fine for a guy, but a bit awkward for a female...

Try your local resale shop. I've seen some awful ones at Good will. Funny you should ask - my friend went to a party like that and showed me her sweater - I actually thought it was cute. Each to their own.

What a fun party theme? This would be great for a Quilt Guild party:)

Ugly christmas sweater party sounds like great fun! Check ebay.

One person's "ugly" is another person's "pretty". Remember Bill Cosby's sweaters on his television show? I thought some of them were hideous, but obviously someone else thought they were great.

I have seen some of the ugliest christmas sweaters in the whole world at thrift shops. And the funny thing is that are usually worn out. So someone obviously used them !!

I have never been to one but it does sound like a lot of fun.

That is too funny! :)

Uh oh... Thanks for the warning! :)

Thanks for the ideas everyone! :) There is a Goodwill in my town. I never thought to check there.

Someone at the guild meeting tonight said that thrift stores were good places to find wool to felt. Hmmm... could be a profitable shopping trip.

COYOTEMAGIC 11-08-2011 08:07 PM

They also call them "Tacky" sweaters on eBay, or at least the ones I bought were, lol

There is a new commercial on tv with a guy and a skating cat sweater that his wife calls hideous on Facebook, lol

All of Mr.Cosby's sweaters were gifts from fans.

Oh HaveI got one you can keep. Hand knit .. but it only comes about 1/2 way over my chest!!! A "gift" from a relative. I opened it .. lifted it up out of the box ... and its no more than 9 inches long... I had no idea what to say!! But its still in the box .. in mint condition... yours for the asking!!

I can't believe there are so many pages of ugly tacky sweaters. OMG. What's this all about.

Makes you wonder what some people are thinking, doesn't it? I received a hand knit scarf from a first time knitter, and I wanted so bad to ask her where the rest of it was... or hand it back to her and tell her to give it back to me when she finished it.

Of course, I didn't and gratefully wear it (around the house)... pleased that she thought so much of me to give me her first effort. I wonder what the person who received my first quilt really thinks? :)

How about hanging christmas ornaments or cookie cutters off a sweatshirt.

Caswews 11-09-2011 07:26 AM

Ohmy goodness .. how funny !!

I found it on eBay. I'm thinking about adding a white feather boa trim to the edges.
