I went to school with a girl named Shirlene, and another named Aletha.

My name is Tresda and I was named after my great grandmother who in turn was named after her grandmother, Trasda Lee. The teachers could never pronouce my name correctly.

My daughter is named Anastasia, but we call her Staci.

I have a neice named Kyra, and another named Kaylon.

I have a very old name... Leota
I hear of people in 70's and older knowing someone by that name but I was the only Leota in school all the way through college. I hated it as a child but now as an adult, I realize how special my name is.

Do you know about the site: www.howmanyofme.com? It is interesting to see how common/uncommon some names are. My name is Cheryl and my mom wanted to name my sister something that rhymed ... but all she could think of was Beryl (which I think is pretty) but she was afraid that people would call her Barrel.

I met a Caitrin recently! Can you share the origins of the name?

It sure is! Well, it seems there are about 1500 people in the US with my first name and about the same number with my surname. I am pretty sure that there is no one with both -the site estimates "one or fewer" LOL

As I mentioned earlier, my name is Laurlyn. What I didn't think about telling you last night was the names of two of my friends from school. My best friend in high school was Misha and another beginning in kindergarten was Tharanya Xan (middle name).

Tharanya hated her name and swore she would legally change it when she turned 18, but she never did. I felt sorry for her at times because other kids would tease her by calling her terantula, and she couldn't even go by her middle name.

I'm Barbara too. I don't think it's such a common name any more. There were lots of Barbaras when I was a child in the 50's but not so much nowadays. I taught for 30 years and in all that time I had only 1 Barbara in any of my classes.

Oh, and if you want uncommon names....

my father was Lamont
my mother was Valera
my maternal grandmother was Nina
my maternal grandfather was Wallace
my paternal grandmother was Gertrude
and my paternal grandfather was Reuben

I'm thankful for "Barbara" ;)
