Using Kona for drapes
 

I found some Kona fabric that match my bedspread and want to make some gromment drapes. Will the Kona work?

Sure! I made curtains for my DH's studio out of some grey Kona and he loves them.

They're not light blocking, so if that's important for your purpose you'll want to line the fabric with some light blocker fabric. If it's a really sunny window you might consider lining them anyway, for UV protection. For our purposes we just left the plain Kona.

I've used quilting fabric for curtains but never with grommets, they hang really nice if you line them with another fabric. I just used Kona white for lining. Of course they sell lining fabric at Joanns.

It will probably work but just bear in mind that Kona is not wrinkle free.

You'll also want a good stabilizer in your header.

I've not used Kona in particular but most of the curtains I've made have been just regular cotton fabric. I've used the heavier drapery or upholstery fabric for things like totes, capes, fancy dress etc.

The Kona would be good, but I agree that the header needs stabilizer so the grommets will hold up well with the pulling and pushing you'll do with the drapes. I'd definitely line the drapes not only because of sun bleaching, but it makes it more private when you close your drapes at night. Also, the drapes that aren't lined don't look any where near as professional as those that are lined. You'll have to iron the drapes after you wash & dry them each time, if you want the same professional look when they're hung up, though. Also, make sure you make the draperies nice and full -- if there isn't enough yardage used when making the drapes it doesn't look quite as good. The best drapes I ever made was from ultra suede (rust) -- I made those nice and full, with pinch pleats at the top header and LOVED the look. Left them with the house when we sold it and I was sorry I did!

Are the big grommets something that can be purchased...like at JAF? I have been considering using that type of drape in my dining area. Never saw the grommets anywhere.

Just looked grommets up...seems they are available all over the place. Even at JAF. I feel silly!!!!!
