Paper lampshades are OK if they are far enough away from the bulb. The Chinese and Japanese have been using paper lampshades for centuries. I am not struck with this particular one but I think it could look OK with more thought about arrangement.

I would have to check out the fire hazard thing but I love them. It is something I would hang in my house in a minute. Price is all relative. My daughter thought it was absurd that I spent $2000. on a sewing machine and we all know that is pretty much a cheapy for close to top of the line machines. I admire anyone who can think outside of the box and be creative and original. I saw lampshades made from old slides that I thought were neat. I love looking at things on ETSY that is one place the artists can do their thing. And its not all the same stuff you can find in the stores. Can I afford it? No even close but it does give me some great ideas.

To each there own. This just may inspire an idea or two, but I have seen similar ideas using odd pattern pieces.
