vintage bathrobe

after unsuccessfully. finding a bathrobe that fits or doesn't have a tie around the middle, I decided to make my own!

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf

I never liked the tie-in-the-middle kind as it always split open below my waist. A million years ago, my mom made me a bathrobe with a zipper up the front running down to the hip area and a closed seam to the floor. I got her pattern after she died and I'm still wearing that bathrobe.

I too never liked the tie in the middle. Like mine to either zip all the way up or if it has snaps ( or buttons) I will sew it up from the bottom to the hip and just step into it when needed.

My sister advised me to get one with a zipper when I went off to college. Never had a tie one since. I'm right there with you Swannie, when my old chenille one wears out, I'm making another. If I find some chenille I like.

Don't forget that beach towels make great robes too!!! Warm & easy wash and dry for winter, or use thinner ones for summer.

One year for Christmas my sister sewed 2 bath towels together ans left opening for my head. Sewed a hand towel to each side for sleeves. Best bathrobe!

Never thought of towels before and yet I had one as a child. Thanks for the reminder. With summer here there are some great ones out there for beachgoers.

MJ I remember making one of those towel robes. I used it as a
swim suit cover walking home from the pool. They must have been popular way back then. It was easy to make and so comfortable. The new fleece ones are too hot for me

I'd love to see pictures, too!

I've been making my own caftans for years and wear them all morning long. I use flannel, and they slip over my head. The sleeves are about down to my elbows so I can work in the kitchen and not worry about them getting wet or soiled.
