I wish I could have taken a picture. Two ladies with a stack of bolts waiting to be cut. They are leaning on the cutting table, chatting with the employee. Seemed to be taking a long time. Then my turn. Time to tell you the employee was a young man from the electronic department next door. His scissors didn't cut worth a hoot, so gave about 2 inches more than a yard. I asked if there wasn't someone in fabrics regularly anymore since the remodel. Well, yes but they were on break or lunch (10:30AM) So do they call just any department to cover then? No, the electronics department is supposed to cover!!! Poor guy - he was young enough to be blushing!!!

Yes, poor guy! Our store no longer has fabric but when they did the same thing would sometimes happen. The fabric employee would go to lunch/break and the fabric customers would be left at the mercy of whoever appeared!

Poor Guy, but at lease you got a little extra...LOL

i've found the guys are more generous- friendlier- and make much better cuts than most of the women working in that department--the women always seem as if it is such a (bother) to help you= they seem to resent any questions- and do not pay much attention to how they are cutting your fabrics...hopefully it's not that way everywhere- but i've experienced it in more than one walmart.

The one Walmart here, that still caries a narrow isle of fabric on the bolt, has a wonderful lady employee. She does not cut much extra but she cuts straight and the correct amount with a smile to booth.

Looking at this from a different angle - may make a great future quilter's DH! My husband does most of my cutting for me since he enjoys it & has now started quilting. His occupation - Electrical Inspector!

I DID cut it myself one night in WalMart!! the poor guy who had to cover didnt have a clue how to measure or anything!! I was good though... only allowed myself an extra inch (and that was because the rior cut was crooked!!!) I even had to help him figure out how to enter it to print out a tag!!! I felt sorry for HIM!!

What a nice guy. He knew you could use that extra little bit of material. Find him a quilting girlfriend. LOL

What a great guy!! I too find some of the younger guys more pleasant to work with. Our paint department fills in too. They know how to work the computer, but that it's. lol

When I worked in the fabric dept at the Walmart here, I loved talking to my customers (later - friends) Exchanging ideas, what they were working on, helping pick out just the right fabric, etc. Miss that part of working there, not the "I know what's best for this department upper management" part. The manager for fabrics took an order for bridal fabric for the wedding dress. It didn't come in and didn't come in and the wedding date was fast approching. She finally went to the store manager and found out that middle manager didn't think we need that much of that, not checking to see what it was for, and had cancled the order. Believe me, that bride had good reason to be very upset. She had to go some where else and we lost customers through no fault of our own.
