This is an advertisment that plays on tv over here, that's pretty cute! It stars a real Pukeko and her babies.

Wow , thanks for shareing. This is the first time I saw this beautiful blue chicken in my life. Look at the BIG foot the chick has!! Soooo cute. Do they make a visit to your house????

BlueChicken 04-14-2009 10:07 PM

Cute aye!

They're actually a pest, they kill baby chickens and ducklings. They tend to be in rural areas, we get them on the outskirts of town.

So it is a brutal blue chicken!! Is that blue procryptic against what?

BlueChicken 04-14-2009 10:15 PM

Against nothing! lol You can spot them a mile away. They have bright white bum feathers too, so they don't exactly blend in with anything! lol

Do they have any natural enemies? Or people try to get them to make some suvenir with their beautiful feathers????
I am also curious if there are any other birda/animals with beautiful color tha I have never seen in NZ. Do you have any idea??
I will show the blue chicken to my kids when they come home from school.

OMG! Never seen one before. Ok, I did see a blue one once, but they dyed the chicken.
Those babies are cute with their gigantic feet...OH MY!

Their natural enemies are truck drivers, as well as the usual stoats (like a ferret) and rats.
They don't make good eating, apparently, although their feathers are gorgeous so they're hunted during duck season. My vet does eat them, she reckons cooked really slowly in a casserole they're ok. Most people say to cook a Pukeko you add a stone to the pot. When the meat is cooked, throw away the bird and eat the stone. ;-)

LOL Cute though even though they're a pest!
