Warm, easy, affordable curtains

We are in a "new home to us" that came with lightweight, decorative curtains. As winter progresses and we can feel the cold air at the windows, I felt I needed to come up with something to help insulate. I purchased solid color anti-pill fleece from JoAnns at a very good price and made casement type curtains for our windows. There is a tension bar at the top and at the bottom. The curtains fit nicely inside the window. There is quite the thrill when sewing with fleece as it does not ravel. The step to turn fabric under to keep from unraveling is completely eliminated. So the sides are simply cut and top and bottom are simply cut and a simple hem for the tension bar is added. I plan to keep them in place on the coldest of days and cinch the top bar to the bottom bar on days when we have sun and no storming. These curtains will come completely out once winter has passed. Anyway, just wanted to pass that idea on in case it can help anyone out. It was an affordable answer for that solution.

I hang dark fleece behind all my decorative window treatments. It does help to insulate the windows but it also works as blackout curtains. I don’t want daylight in the house until I am up.

I bought a light weight bed quilt and cut it in half length wise to make 2 panels. I finished the cut edges then flipped one of the narrow ends over on each panel and sewed a rod pocket. The flipped edge becomes an attached vallance. Super easy insulated drapes for our bedroom.

years ago I belonged to a group that made the attic window block with outdoor scenes and turned them into a quilt to hang at the window for the winter. It was fun and they were cute.
Still Sew N I like your idea. Thanks for posting.
