I am still in the process of going thru my moms fabric....she had lots! Anyway, it's been stored for a while, therefor really needs to be washed again. How do y'all wash the fabric without ending up with a huge tangled mess of loose strings?

some of them make a zig zag stitch across the ends and they don't ravel. Try Fabric refresher instead of washing it all, at least try it on some to see if it takes the odor out. lots of work otherwise.

Zig zag or serge the ends.

I use pinking shears and that helps.

When I buy fab I have to wash it. I sew fab together selvage to salvage using zig zag. Usually end up sewing enough fab pieces together to make up at least 3 yard "sections". Big job but must be done.

I have gotten so that I just wash on the gentle cycle for just a couple minutes. I also wash all my fabric with the detergent and fabric softener that I would normally use on wash day. Good luck!

I have a pinking blade in one of my rotary cutters. Quick, easy and no thread nests anymore.

I stay-stitch all cut edges and wash/dry with a regular cycle

Cut off all 4 corners of each fabric. Between the washer and the dryer, you may have a few threads to cut off, but not many...after drying you shouldn't have a big tangle of threads.

I use a pinking blade on my rotary cutter. Pinking with a pair of pinking shears is a real pain unless you can sucker someone else into doing it. Clipping corners never seemed to work for me. The serging and staystitching work but are time consuming. I think the answer to this problem depends on what you are willing to do.

Toss them in a mesh laundry bag and run them through the washer. You'll get some fraying but it won't be as bad as doing it without. Plus it will save all that cutting
