I received an email from a family member about this and it's disturbing. Why are people so mean now a days? I had never heard of this and wanted everyone here to be aware... (Oh, and it has a link to Snopes, apparently this is for real)

Kids are putting Draino, tin foil, and a little water in soda bottles and capping it up - leaving it on lawns. When you go to pick up the trash, and the bottle is shaken just a little - in about 30 seconds or less it builds up a gas and explodes with enough force to remove some of your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot as well.

Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be lying in your yards or in the gutter, etc. Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water. A small piece of foil. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!! No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

People are finding these "bombs" in mailboxes and in their yards, just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the trash. But, you'll never make it!!! It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing.

The video at SNOPES shows the Indiana State Police Bomb Squad detonating one -- it's truly horrifying! .. I checked "Truth or Fiction" and "they" agree this is TRUTH!!! So be warned and beware.

How nice of snopes to remind people of how to make them! They have been around since I was a kid and that has been a while!!

We had 2 instances of this in our subdivision last summer. Left on front porch and doorbell rang. Both families were very lucky their small children did not go to the door.

When I was a kid, about 6, I was very interested in science and being a doctor. I used to mix different concoctions, etc.

One day, I mixed draino in a baby food jar with water and was heading outside. My Mother was in the flower garden below me when it burst from the heat.

She was lucky, none of it hit her and she was looking up. I on the other hand had 3rd degree burns all over my hands and arm. It was like one large bubble. Luckily no permanent damage was done, but I learned the lesson of my life! To think that I could have blinded my Mother or worse, or been left with a finger or two missing!

All I can think of is all the deliquent children going "Ohh lets go try that!!"
Gives you instructions, tells you its dangerous, then shows a "cool" explosion.

Well, I'm 61 and didn't know about it, and am grateful for the warning, no matter where it comes from.

I wouldn't tell a kid what's in the bomb, but I would tell them to be careful picking up trash.
