DH just got home and he's done with harvest. Finished! Earlier than most years and with much less drama (backstory-his dad usually does a lot of the work-not dh's choice-and this year he quit helping after the first week or so). I am so happy!!

Hope it was a good one....can't say our farmers here are very happy, we are in for a long hot summer and had very little rain this past winter.
|
We harvested our walnuts last week.....what a relief to have it done for another year. Happy for you and your DH!

Gale, I had to laugh at your comment. My brother farms our family farm and he 'kicked' our dad out of the combine one afternoon after my dad had ridden a couple rounds with him. My dad had commented to my brother that he "would probably TURN the farming operation over to him in about 5 years." My dad is 82 and my brother is 50 and has been handling everything for about 15 years now. LOL

Congrats!! :D:D:D
Parents  Ya gotta love them :D:D:D |
Congratulations, that is great news!

CONGRATULATIONS!
|
Congrats. I'm glad it's done.

Wish we could send some rain over to you in West Aust, I know my sister in Morangup (Gidgegannup) is also complaining of no rain this year. Dry as.

There's chiseling to be done but that isn't like harvest where you have to hurry. He can come home for lunch, be home at a decent hour, etc and won't be nearly as tired at night.
thanks everyone. earthwalker-I hope things improve there. We had a very bad year last year so I know that it's so hard. |
Congrats--glad that is done for you all.
|
Gale, that's great news!! Hope you enjoy a more normal pace in the coming days and weeks!! :)
|
Great !! Glad it's in for the year!
|
I know exactly how you feel. We farm too and just finished digging potatoes on Tuesday this week. This morning there was a skiff of ice on the deck, so it was time. There were also a few snow flakes in the air but then this is Canada.

Here in Wisconsin, there is so much corn - from our plentiful harvest - that the feed mills quit taking it!!! Finally a good year and no place to go with it. In my world, the harvest if finished and now we move to haul millions of gallons of manure!! Stinky job but means good money!!
|
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!Yes, It seems like I surrounded by corn this year! We had a new ethenol plant built a few years back, so everyone here grows as much corn as they can, lol!
|
Isn't it a good feeling to have the harvest done, and everyone safe. It's always a worry because the men work extra long hours trying to get done. Here in Iowa, the weather has been perfect for the whole month of October. The last measurable rain we had was in September, so our men were able to stay in the fields without interruption.
|
What a welcome relief! I know you are very pleased! How well I remember my years on the farm!
