A big thanks to all who answered. I am looking forward to our new store. I am glad to know about the quarters for carts and shopping bags. I do love to shop for groceries as much as material. I was in a very money poor but lots of love family growing us so being able to buy a few extra groceries seems somewhat of a special treat to me. Crazy I know but that is me.

lucy78 09-24-2011 04:39 AM

wouldn't go anywhere else for milk &veggies.prices r great.fresh meat a bit expensive.can't beat there prices on canned goods.milk last longer than anyplace else.

Shirlrh 09-24-2011 04:44 AM

We love Aldi!! They are great prices and the very best multi grain tortilla chips! They are our favorite. We shop there alot.

Granny B 09-24-2011 04:45 AM

Aldi's is good for some things, but you need to watch prices. Many of their items are higher than other stores. Their fresh produce is usually very good, but sometimes in larger quantities than I would want to buy. No one can touch their bread prices here.

jitkaau 09-24-2011 04:45 AM

Our Aldi stores are good. They re-brand a lot of the same products that we can buy in the regular supermarkets and sell them at a cheaper price.
I like the nick-nacks that they come up with from time to time, such as a torch that doesn't need batteries. I bought one to keep in my car as it only cost $3.

Ann L 09-24-2011 04:52 AM

Love Aldi. Their produce is better than Wal-marts and more resonable. I love their selection of German food at Christmas time. I really miss that since we were in Germany for 11 years with the military.

Traditional 09-24-2011 04:59 AM

I go there for fresh produce.

Vikki 09-24-2011 05:31 AM

We shop at Aldi every week - multi-grain bread, milk, eggs, honey, corn oil, all kinds of nuts, cheese, apples, oatmeal, tortilla chips, lunch meat - turkey and ham, and we like the fresh pizza which is too big to fit in the fridge so we go straight home and make it!

jeannie t 09-24-2011 05:41 AM

I love aldi's just not fond of there potatoes they go soft fast .

Mary T. 09-24-2011 05:52 AM

I love Aldi's. I have yet to buy anything there that I haven't been happy with. The "Fit and Active" brand is excellent. The Chix. breasts are great. My husband thinks the Key Lime pie is the best ever! I have had great success with their meats. I use reuseable bags where I shop so that feature is right up my alley. And I don't have to worry about hitting a grocery cart in the parking lot!

Linn 09-24-2011 06:20 AM

Aldis is a great little store. We buy all our milk, eggs, honey, bread, potatoes, fruit and most can food and ice cream there. Cheap prices but most are their own name brand. They have improved quality a lot over the years. They have the shopping carts that you put a quarter in to use and then get it back when you leave. That way all the carts are chained together and no carts in the lot to scratch cars.

Quiltbeagle 09-24-2011 06:21 AM

We like most of Aldi's products, a few we didn't care for and some we just never purchased because we just wouldn't use them. I just love their specials (if they're not sold out by the time I get there), their prices are excellent and the checkout is FAST!!!

lizzyq 09-24-2011 06:31 AM

Great store. As jaciqltznok wrote, the bouquets of fresh flowers are long-lasting and very reasonably priced. Of course, the food is tops too, but I love fresh flowers every so often, and it's not an expensive splurge. If they only had fabric there....

Stitchit123 09-24-2011 06:52 AM

I love Aldi's prices-their canned goods are cheaper than M or W's store brand -produce is too,a smaller selection than the big stores They have a nice selection of frozen stuff if you like that kind of stuff -The only only thing I did not like was their Beaumont Coffee. They gave me my money back, when I mention it I didn't even have the can with me. OH make sure you have a Quarter for the shopping cart, when you return it you get it back- another way they keep prices down.I wish the bigger stores would do this.

Hi, We have many Aldi stores here in the U.K. also in Germany where we visit relatives often. Here they sell local veg and meat and we find them great. Also the staff are so polite and fast on the checkouts, we would hate to be without them.As always it's a case of buying what you find of value, we look for special offers.Funny thing is a friend of mine has a son who is a director of Aldi U.K. and she never shops there! Shhh, love her as I do, she is a bit of a snob.! x

Sandyb 09-24-2011 07:12 AM

We have several Aldi in our area. I love shopping there. The quality is good, the prices are fantastic and I love their Fit & Active brand. I almost always go there first to do my shopping and then hit another store to get what they don't carry. They are always adding to their stock of items that I use the most of. For example - SunChips multigrain chips Original at the store is usually about $3.00 - $3.50 Aldi brand - Clancy's Multigrain chip $1.99. The produce is just as good as all the other stores. Bananas are usually about 15 cents a pound cheaper that the other stores. You will love it.

patchsamkim 09-24-2011 07:21 AM

Aldi's is a great store...love their prices for fresh fruit in the summer...I try not to go there on the weekend...too busy for me as it is a small store, but I always feel I get really good buys there.

Crafty1 09-24-2011 07:29 AM

This is really interesting! There is an Aldi's being built down the street from me. Will check it out when it opens.

gertz 09-24-2011 08:43 AM

You will love this store. Nothing fancy but good prices and good quality on most things.

Quiltinggma-nc 09-24-2011 09:14 AM

Aldi's has good prices. There fresh produce is usually lower in price than the chain stores. I go to my local Aldi's a couple times a month to stock up on staples as they are also lower in price.

grannypat7925 09-24-2011 09:19 AM

They are wonderful. Lots of good stuff and usually cheaper than Walmart. Not a lot of frills, just good prices.

toadmomma 09-24-2011 10:09 AM

their french onion dip is the best, beats out all others

shadow59602 09-24-2011 11:34 AM

Wow, I wish we would get an Aldi. I always shopped at Aldi in Germany and I loved that store. The prices were good also. I live in Montana and the population is less than one million. I don't believe we will ever get one.

luv-e 09-24-2011 11:43 AM

I have to say also, it is my fav. store!!!
I can buy romaine lettuce there and it will last a couple of wks in the ref. You buy it @ WM and it is bad by the end of the wk.!!!!
They have such a turnover in their produce. you are always getting the freshed you can buy!!!!
Their EVOO is a great price too...[extra virgin olive oil]
Times are hard and this store makes it easier on the pocketbook...
You see everyone from all walks of life in our store.....

happy sewer 09-24-2011 11:52 AM

We like most things at Aldis.
Hope you do also. Hope your lines won't be as long. The ladies here don't keep the lines down to well, but other than that it's ok. If you see something you really like stock up. They may not get it again. Good luck.

sunflowerpeg 09-24-2011 12:02 PM

oh, you are SO fortunate to have this store nearby. i shopped there a LOT when we lived in des moines. the kids HATED going there........."why can't we go to the 'normal' grocery store?" and guess what? the oldest and his wife are now shopping at their neighborhood ALDI in st. louis.

Don't worry, they spread like a rash ;-) It's not that many years ago, there were no Aldis in Australia - I'm used to them from Germany where they originated - great stores!!! When we got to Australia 7 yrs ago the next Aldi was about 4-5 hours away, now they've just opened the 2nd one in the town (pop. around 47'000) near were we live - so you might just not know what lies around the corner

Ann L 09-24-2011 12:58 PM

Don't forget to bring your own bags or you have to pay for their's. Love that idea. Makes me think twice before I leave home without my basket.

Pinkiris 09-24-2011 12:59 PM

We have been shopping at our local Aldi more and more in recent months as we've watched food prices escalate in our town.

As others have said, their produce prices aren't often beaten by other stores. Especially fresh mushrooms (49cents/8 oz. this week), lettuce and broccoli. I also love the low price on their minced garlic in a jar, which I use a lot of.

We are also seeing more and more name brand products there. Most times, it's a "special purchase" and the item isn't regularly carried.

All in all, we find that we can save quite a bit of money by stopping there.

nhnative 09-24-2011 01:52 PM

I'm in Ohio and I shop there all the time. I'm ok with store brands and some are really good. It's the cheapest store near me. And there aren't big aisles so you are not in there for an hour. Super fast checkout. I love it.

nhnative 09-24-2011 01:53 PM

Wow I didn't know Aldi's were in Europe.

Nancy O. 09-24-2011 02:07 PM

We have a new store which will open soon and it is just about 1 mile from my house. Now I am looking forward to trying it.

ALDI Einkauf GmbH & Co. oHG, doing business as About this sound ALDI (help·info), short for "Albrecht Discount", is a discount supermarket chain based in Germany. The chain is made up of two separate groups, ALDI Nord (North - operating as ALDI MARKT), headquartered in Essen,[2] and ALDI Süd (South - operating as Aldi Süd), headquartered in Mülheim an der Ruhr,[3] which operate independently from each other within specific market boundaries. The individual groups were originally owned and managed by brothers Karl Albrecht and Theo Albrecht; Karl has since retired and is Germany's richest man. I love Aldi's. I have cut my monthly food expenditure almost in half. The dairy products are 50 cents to a dollar less than the local supermarkets. Can't beat the quality of produce, bread, frozen entrees and fish. Graham crackers, cornbread crackers, snack pies, spices are also good buys.

Aldi's does not have "gimmicks" to entice you to buy more packages than you really need at one time.

Debbie C 09-24-2011 04:55 PM

You are going to love Aldi's!!! I always visit the one in Binghamton, NY when I visit with my daughter - you're going to save a lot of money by shopping there!!!

craftygma 09-24-2011 04:57 PM

I really like shopping at Aldi's. There' not to many things i
won't buy there. I don't buy my fresh meat there.

marlene tarzwell 09-24-2011 04:57 PM

We went to Aldi for the 9 years we were stationed in Germany. Loved them. Especially the German foods. We have 3 around Greenville . One of them is right across from WM, so we go there first to get our fresh veggies and many canned veggies and fruit and of course the German wine and candy. Then we go to WM. Cant beat most of the prices. Went today and even got the German Schnitzel and noodles. Yummm! You should really like it.

dkquilter 09-24-2011 05:39 PM

I love Aldi's, we really have found only a few products that don't like. Enjoy your new store.
