I don't know where you live, and don't want to start an argument, but if you get on a mountaintop here in Oregon, you'll see it's got more trees than anyone would believe. A few facts that most of the population don't know: The trees that are cut down for houses, toilet paper, paper towels are HARVESTED trees. The companies grow the trees for that purpose...they're not cutting down trees for these purposes in the National Forest or on BLM land. They DO cut down trees in our area near housing developments, campgrounds, or near the highways to cut down on fire hazard. Now that being said......BLM and National Forest DO sell off land....THAT's what you want to stop. Near us, before the economy falling, they sold off a huge area of land....in such a large "plot" that no single person could buy....a developer bought it and decided to put in a resort....a resort that the normal people would not be able to afford. The plans were to sell the LOT for $250,000 and on up!!!! THAT's what I'd like to see stopped.....

off my soapbox now...:-D

pojo 08-10-2010 07:28 AM

I live in an area they just keep cutting down trees for shopping malls, parking lots, and more businesses that don't stay in business. It is sad to see buildings empty where trees use to be.

I lived in the country and we had trees, trees, and trees.

Just for fun....here's a picture I took last summer from atop a mountain...at a fire lookout place (WAAAY too high for me!!) Every place on this picture are trees....except the lake and the highest points of the mountains with snow. this is just ONE lake in Oregon....and it's a small lake!!!

Washington DC and metro area is known for its beautiful big old trees. Well, with all of the fallen trees, broken electrical lines during the winter & summer storms, they are going thru the city and literally cutting the entire side of the tree closest to the power lines. It looks horrible, I will take some pictures & post tomorrow. Huge trees cut to the main stem on one side. I truly understand why after spending a week with out electric in 100+ heat but put the power lines underground would be easier and safer. It took them 10.5 hours to destroy one side of one tree laying wire actually goes faster with that machine thing and its a more permanent solution. Oh well!

dlspeed1 08-10-2010 07:51 AM

lol, this was just way to funny, wouldn't it make a neat quilt for the outer world, in a more serious way to help encourage all the treeing cutting to slow down and reallize we have enough already, but yet in a funny way also? Love It! Thanks! :)

An interesting thought. I don't want anyone to get me wrong.....I don't like clear cutting of the forests. I've seen what's been done in the past....and I'm glad they're taking a more valid interest in preserving our forests. I also get ticked off when I see new buildings going in when others are sitting empty......I'd love to see some of the old houses in Salem - near the capital building -- that I saw in the old books. Too many beautiful old homes being torn down.

nativetexan 08-10-2010 10:54 AM

I love trees I have told my family and friends when I die to plant a tree in my memory. Whenever we loss a loved pet we plant a tree in their honor. The grandkids can walk around the place and say this is chips tree or this is charlies tree. So they all stay part of our lives. I am partial to evergreen . mkay

Dee 08-12-2010 06:12 PM

mom-6 08-12-2010 07:47 PM

Are you trying to make me feel guilty??? I spend nearly every weekend cutting down trees! Of course I doing it so you can actually see the pretty big trees and to clear a spot to build our retirement cottage. One of the neighbor lots across the street cleared about twice as much as necessary to build whatever he intends to build, unless he's planning on a mansion! Why buy land in the woods and then go clear ALL the trees off?

zz-pd 08-13-2010 02:25 PM

That is to funny. God bless.
