That was nice of you to do. That happened to me once, a neighborhood dog got loose and I (who doesn't like dogs) convinced this puppy to get into my car and I drove around looking for anyone who looked like they might be out looking for a dog.

I found them and the boy was so happy to see the dog as the dog was to see him. Dog drooled all over my car though, ugh!
