I'm not an axe murderer, I swear!
Last night I was sitting in my familyroom watching TV with the cat when there was a knock on the door, at 9:30pm. The cat ran to the door, me following behind. I turned on the porch light to look out the peephole but I couldn't really tell who was there, just saw a black jacket. Maybe I shouldn't have answered the door at all but instead I grabbed a Samurai Tool that was just delivered and was still on the table by the door. It's a small handaxe with a hammer-head on one side and a crowbar on the end. It's new and still gleaming black. I held the axe on the side of my leg and opened the door, also trying to block the indoors only cat. It was the woman who just moved in next door to me. I was keeping the axe out of sight but then the cat went between my legs and ran outside. I started to go after her and stepped out from behind the door. The woman saw the axe and took a couple of steps back off of the porch. I didn't say a word about the axe and neither did she. She came over to ask if I would nail one of the boards back up on the fence that fell over onto my side. I laugh every time I think of it. Maybe I should bring her a couple of jars of homemade jam as a more appropriate welcome. |
I just had to laugh. Probably something I would do...
|
LOL you could have said you were on your way out to fix the fence  Bet she doesn't show up so late next time
|
With all that is happening today, I would be concerned about opening a door at that time without knowing who was on the other side. The crime rate is up because the economy is down and sometimes desperate people do stupid things. I don't mean you or the neighbor but we have just got to be cautious. Send over the jam or invite her over for coffee and let her know you really are a very nice person. Who knows? Maybe she quilts or at least is interested in learning. You could make a friend. You'll have to let us know what happens next.

As I was reading I knew the cat would do something!! With 5 of my own, someone is always suspect hee hee
Yeah, jam or cookies would be nice! lol |
How funny!!!  Homemade jam is a good idea, but she just might think it's poisoned! You might want to go with a fancy storebought jam!!
|
Good for you--being safe! She might get the wrong impression of the neighborhood--but I'm so glad you acted cautiously. Homemade jam is perfect.

What kind of person knocks on a neighbors door she hasn't met yet to complain about a board loose on a fence?!!! Good grief, maybe it's good you had an ax in your hand, she won't bother you at odd hours anymore!!
|
They always say to start as you mean to go on! lol
|
LOL.... never can tell, when you go to deliver, welcome to the neighborhood, bundle, check for the baseball bat propped aginst the door jam !!! Think I'd do it in daylight hours.
Nothing wrong with being protected, or careful. :) |
Bet she doesn't mess with you again! :-D
Get the new neighbor in line right away - I like your style. |

She might wonder what a woman who answers the door with an axe in her hand might be putting into her "jam."
|
:D I think I would visit her in the daytime. Then explain why you went to the door armed. :D Don't blame you.....we do have to be cautious.
|
That is too funny! I would love to have been a fly on the wall when she went back home!!!
|
rofl, that is so funny, I wonder what she is telling her friends and family about the neighbor next door
|
LO< that is SO FUNNY!! Take her some red jam, lol!
|
I was telling a co-worker the tale and he was cracking up and said, "When the cat ran out you should have really freaked her out by running after it with the axe and yelling, 'My dinner!'"
Just a joke!! No housepets were harmed in this incident! |

This is just too funny. |
LOL, that is similar to what happened to me a couple weeks ago. I was woke up from someone banging on my front door at 1 am. I (naturally) go to the door with a gun in my hand. It was the cops! Seems my neighbor saw people in my backyard with flashlights. She called me but I have the phone ringer turned off so didn't hear it. Supposedly they were a church group trying to get down to the river... At 1 in the morning??? Besides that, you can't hardly get down the river bank in the daylight, much less after dark. Not to mention it is full of cottonmouth's. Moral of this story is...so much for watch dogs. I have a doberman, german shepard and an Australion Shepard and they all slept thru it until the police knocked on the door!
|
I'll bet if you take the jam over -- at a reasonable hour -- and explain, she'll have a good laugh, too. LOL BTW - that's something I'd do, too....
|
Well Pam, I for 1 am impressed with your handling of that sword...AND wondering why you ordered it in the first place!! See how nosey people think???
I think it hilarious and I would have done the same thing...well....my "weapon of choice" would have been a shotgun or axe handle..either one are by the door and ready to go...depends on what kind of "varmit" I think is on the other side of the door!:lol::lol: |
Funny! This is what happened to me. We moved into a new house in June. A co-worker, (not one of my favorites) lives on the next street. She knocked on the door one evening at 9:15. DH answers the door and invites her in. She says she can't come in because she has her dog with her. I go out on the porch and talk to her for a few minutes and come back in. That is when I notice that my dh has on a tshirt and underwear. I said did you answer the door like that? "Yep," he says. "I am not used to having people stop by." She hasn't been back...LOL

What kind of a person would think someone would fix a fence board at 9:30PM?
Our oldest Granddaughter lives with us and cautions us all the time to keep the doors locked at all hours of the day and night, doesn't want to come home and found that someone has killed us. She has locked Grampa out several times on the weekends, when he was working in the yard. I even locked him out too, startled me to hear a knock on the door. Silly girl has rubbed off of me. |
At least you dont have a neighbor that cuts your privacy hedges almost down and then throws ice water on your Pomeranian.
I told the neighbor the next time that they stepped out of line I was going to get my 12 gauge and blow their kneecaps off!! Billy |
Good fences make good neighbors!! I haven't seen anyone over there, or at least no lights so I haven't knocked on the door yet. I'm at work during the day so maybe this weekend...
Oh, and I haven't nailed the board up either. I'll get around to it. Maybe next Sunday night at 9:30pm I'll go out there and start pounding on the fence. :-D |
That is tooooooooooooooooo funny! Sounds like something I would do

Oh that is to funny, I bet she does not ask you for anything again. God bless.
|
That is cute.
But I don't answer my door after a certain time. Too much is going on in this world. |
Funny! But I guess now days we are a bit too cautious, but who knew? Thats something I would do. I grabbed my DS baseball bat alum. one. In the car I used to carry a tire thumper, as I came home about 1AM.
|
Funny... I am home sick from work today and there was just a knock at the door. I know it's not anyone that I need to talk to since normally I am not home during the day, so I'm not answering it. I wonder if it is her about the fence board again. My car is in the driveway so pretty obvious I am here.
|
Maybe we are not being fair to her...maybe she works a funny shift and she just got home and noticed your lights...hmmm...did she apologize for coming over so late? She probably couldn't have called you as she didn't know your name (unless she is the "stalker" type and used your street addy for a reverse look up for your phone #)...Oh well..I got side tracked..maybe it was her coming over today...possible bring you a watermelon to wack with your sword!
