I would like to know how all of you thrify quilters cut corners on your quilting fabric. Do you just buy what you need at the time or do you have those huge store-like collections that I have seen on here?

Very proud to say my daughter uses cloth diapers---they sure are different than the ones I had but at least she is not using disposables like most.

I like that idea. Can you imagine how fast our button jars would grow if we all did that?

Something I do that I haven't seen mentioned is that I keep a gallon-sized toy bucket in the kitchen sink. When I wash my hands or scrub potatoes or rinse off dishes for the dishwasher or whatever I do that would have sent almost-clean water down the drain, I do over the bucket. When the bucket is full (like 10 times a day) I throw the water out the front door into the flower garden. You'd be surprised how much usable water goes down the drain.

This has been a very interesting...and educational...thread! I just bought the ingredients to make our homemade laundry soap. Blessings to all!

Crazy, I know. That sounds great - you could also use the tear-offs for packing material when you need to ship something. OR you could donate to a pet store - they use that kind of stuff for gerbils and hamsters. This was a great idea to post. I've enjoyed reading everyone's ideas. I'm still thinking about making my own laundry detergent..... also, bring all the printed pages we don't need home for the grandkids to color on.. they love to unfold the paper all the way down the hallway & color for hours to fill it up... cheap & QUIET entertainment! |

Ok, I forgot...one of the things I do that saves a bundle is that I refill my ink cartridges.

I've been thinking about doing that.Does that really work?
