I was born and raised in CO. and now live in KY. My Mom was born in WVA and lived in PA in her early adulthood. She had this saying Instead of saying"we need to tidy or straighten up the house "she would say we need to red up the house. Anyone else heard that?

When as a child, I would visit my grandmother and she would say "come in ducks "( or "dux" )...My DH goes "to see a man about a horse" instead of the bathroom.....close the light instead of shutting it off....and does anyone remember the "pony boy" ? a pony pulling a wagon filled with ice cream. I am not going to bed this way!

here's a new one: my mother in law calls it (the couch) a "davenport". and we drink pop around my house!

in southern Ca. the bag boy was called the box boy, who bagged your food at e market.

My DH will want me to "bring" him to work, not "take" him. In east Texas someone has an "idear" instead of an "idea" about what to do. You use the pot rather than go to the toilet.

Depneds on where you live. In Virginia in the 70's we used CB lingo for example, Have to go B-100, Or pulling up to the piggy bank, When I went back to the west coast no one knew what we were talking about LOL. In NC they had yungins, ya'll,gonna git, gotta git, things like jeff foxwothy talks about.
on the west it was dinner in the east its supper. In hawaii we always loved asking people who came to visit if they would like some PUPUs to try. until they found out what they were they usually said no. Of course there was aways chacca bro(sp/). that is all I can think of at the moment. |

I was invited to come to "dinner" while on vacation one year. I arrived about 5pm and had missed "dinner" by at least 4 hours. :) Now I always ask, is that dinner at lunchtime or dinner at suppertime?
