What else can I use yo-yos for?
One of my quilting friends gave me a whole bag of mauve scraps. I searched through my fabrics and found all kinds of beautiful co-ordinating fabrics that just made the others pop. Someone asked me to show them how to make yo-yos. Now I am hooked!!!! The only problem is that I don't like anything that I've seen made with yo-yos. They are so much fun to move around and play with, but I don't want to make a bedspread or tablecloth or dolls legs. The only thing I can think of to use them for would be a dresser scarf or a rectangular shawl to wear around my shoulders. Also saw them put on the edges of a pillow case. Does anyone know of anything else that they can be used for?

I have made a table runner. Lots of ideas on Google:

Thanks, ManiacQuilter and tessagin. Can't believe there are so many wonderful things made with the yo-yos.
You've made my day! |
p.s. the google search that you gave me reminded me of the hot plates that we used to make in the 50's using bottle caps. We'd go to the gas station where they sold soda and take all of the used bottle caps and cover them with either purple felt (yo-yos) for a cluster of grapes, or red for a cluster of cherries and make hot plates. That was fun to make too.

Pal, I remember crochet cotton thread and covered soda caps in purple for grapes.............

Hi Calla, that one sure brought a smile to my face. Thanks for the memory!

I saw a quilt store which had valances in its windows, and they were made of joined yo-yos, really charming! I would give the location except the owner retired, and the store is no longer in business.

I made a tortoise once, with a group of boys in my class. We covered the shell with yo-yos. (I have not made a yo-yo since!).

I have seen vests made with yo-yos and my mother made skirts with yo-yos. I have one or two that I kept because they remind me of her. I don't wear them though
