If work has a negative connotation, life is going to be hard to enjoy.
Doing "work" means we have accomplished something at the end of the day. What could be better than that feeling. For some of us it could be just the act of getting out of bed, for others it could be putting the last stitch in the binding of a quilt. When I say I worked hard on that quilt, I did and I enjoyed everything about it, even when having to unsew I am glad I caught the mistake I made. Enjoy the doing peace |
I use the word "work" quite often but I never meant it to sound like "work" was a long grueling process in quilting. I guess I never really thought about it. Maybe I need to watch how I say things

Oops! It didn't finish my reply. OK maybe we could call it Great start or great finish depending on what stage it is in.

I like "I finished my latest inspiration."

Isn't it funny how our inner dialogue colors words with different meanings. I also have more negative feelings connected with "job" than with "work" but neither one cause negative feelings when used about quilting.
I have also found that my inner dialogue has changed over the years. For instance the old expression "killing two birds with one stone." I always thought of it only as the analogy it is meant to be and never thought twice about using it. Lately, I hate it and now when I start to use it out of habit, I stop myself and think of another way to express what I am trying to say. Like "more than one way into a castle".....bet you thought I was going to mention the cat. Hate that expression even more. :) |

I am really enjoying this conversation. Some very interesting concepts to ponder. Thanks for the question Kitsie.
