A quilter friend is visiting me in Singapore and I'm planning to get her a gift. Any suggestions on what is good, bearing in mind that she's been quilting for a long time and would have everything a quilter should have. I thought something hand quilted or handmade by me would be the best choice but I just simply don't have the time to get it done. Will be going to the LQS tomorrow to hunt for a gift.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |

A basket of pre cuts (like charms, jelly rolls, or layer cakes) and a bag of her favorite chocolates..

How about a pincushion? They're pretty quick to sew. Here are a couple of cute ones from the Moda Bake Shop.

How about some nice batik fabrics that are sold there??? I have some a friend sent to me from a store there. I think they were Indian batiks and different than the batiks we get here.

Last time I was at Joanne's (or was it Michael's?) I saw the cutest little reproduction of a sewing machine made in fabric!!! It was only about 15 dollars, and I made a mental note to go back and get a couple for special gifts..and that mental note got erased in my cluttered mind...

Here's my suggestion ... buy your friend some fabric that says "Singapore", as much as you want or as little. At the same time, buy the exact same fabric and amount(s) for yourself.
Then when she goes home, she has the fun of making something, knowing that you are doing the same. You will do the same. Then there'll be the FUN in the reveal and comparison of what each of you did with your fabric. It'll help you tie the threads of your friendship even closer. Instead of a gift card, make her a label with the sentiments you would have put in the card, with the intention that she can include it in her quilt. |
Thanks to all for the great suggestions! Yeah, I was thinking of getting her some nice and unique fabrics too! I seldom buy my fabrics from Singapore as they are too expensive, mostly had them shipped from US, but I'm sure I'll be able to find some which is unique to my country. :)
