What happened to Oprah?

When I click on her channel, the OWN channel, it now says History channel.

QuiltnNan 11-30-2011 03:45 PM

it seems that would be a question for your cable provider. they contract for the different networks

athomenow 11-30-2011 04:01 PM

I never saw anything on her network worth watching. Most of it was reruns. Somewhere I read that she has since said she didn't really think it through when starting it. Too busy trying to end the Oprah show to concentrate on the new one.

nativetexan 11-30-2011 04:43 PM

I know i got a notice from Comcast that more channels were moving. call your provider and see if that was why and where she is now. i don't get her channel.

chickadee_42us 11-30-2011 05:03 PM

Agreed, your provider has switched its channel lineup.

Quiltbeagle 11-30-2011 06:30 PM

It must be your cable provider switching things around. We still get her channel, though I wish we didn't. She took the place of Discovery Health that my daughter and I watched all the time.

BellaBoo 11-30-2011 07:41 PM

My first thought was who cares? LOL. I'm not an Oprah fan at all but I know how frustrating it is to have a favorite show gone with no explanation. I did read that her new network was failing and many stations were dropping the channel.

sewgray 12-01-2011 05:51 AM

I am not an Oprah fan, I too was upset because she replaced one of my favorite channels. The Discovery Health Channel. Unfortunatley I found Own on a different number last night. To tell the truth, I was just hoping she was gone. Oh well!!

ptquilts 12-01-2011 06:40 AM

I also liked Discovery Health although in recent years I took to calling it the "WTF" channel, as it was full of shows like the 1000 pound man, born without a face, I swallowed my own foot, weird stuff like that.

j 12-01-2011 06:47 AM

I would think she should put craft shows on to help her dying station. - J

athomenow 12-01-2011 06:49 AM

Swallowed my own foot? I would watch that!

CRELLA 12-01-2011 06:54 AM

My husband heard her network was in trouble i didn't like it at all big mistake she made i think

Here's to wishful thinking!

Kitsie 12-01-2011 09:24 AM

I am surprised (and delighted, I must admit) that I'm not the only Oprah non-fan! I thought it would be considered sacrilege. Too much self-aggrandizement, it's all about her, her, her. I also liked DHC. Don't understand why one network can take over another channel.

Scraps 12-01-2011 09:34 AM

Your Cabel company has changed channel numbers.

BarbM32 12-01-2011 11:54 AM

Not being an Ophra fan I feel I haven't missed much with her being gone. However, I am surprised at the total lack of fanfare of whatever she is working on or changed to.

Sewlmatesister 12-02-2011 04:29 AM

Well I for one am an absolutely amazed fan! If you took a few minutes to watch her life classes, you would be pleasantly surprised! When you think of all the crap on TV...and compare this show...wow...I think everyone should watch this show...how different our world would be! In this world of Me Me Me...... this show helps us learn how to be all the best that we can be, and shares how we can become better human beings. I LOVE it. Please take the time to watch a couple segments, you may be pleasantlyt surprised!!!

Caswews 12-02-2011 06:21 AM

I couldn't stand to watch her on TV, but her magazine was a good one ! Now that she has her "OWN" channel I could care less. Its either DIY, Foodnetwork,Cooking Channel, HGTV , History Channels, Discovery Channel I rarely watch any other channels !

ptquilts 12-02-2011 06:39 AM

while we are on the subject, am I the only member of the female persuasion, who is insulted by the fare that is offered on networks that are "geared to women", like WE? weddings, wedding dresses, moms, babies, cakes, gossip, -- I feel like I am back in the 1950's. I happen to be a woman who enjoys watching 60 minutes, Charlie Rose, documentaries, etc.

bj 12-02-2011 07:12 AM

Have you tried to see if it is available online? I'm not a big TV fan period, so I haven't looked for it.

Barbshobbies 12-02-2011 07:23 AM

I could only take just sooo much of one person. Oprah has done wonderful things, you only want to hear them once, maybe twice, she just was toooo much for me.

I am completely with you on this issue. I find it insulting some of the shows that are marketed to women. We have been backsliding for quite awhile . With all the push-up bras and shapers being marketed are we really liberated? ( I can get really on a soap box on this issue... )

mojo11 12-02-2011 09:09 AM

It would not hurt my feelings if her network disappeared totally. I didnt watch her on national network, so I sure don't watch own. Just my opinion.

Sadiemae 12-02-2011 09:18 AM

I would be glad if it just disappeared.

I'm with you Ruth. Her life classes are great. They give you alot to think about. I stumbled across the life classes toward the end of the series. Then I found the beginning on repeats and started watching that but have missed some lately. They are certainly worth watching.
