What I learned today !!!!

Don't ask your know it all husband to help with math if he doesn't understand how to construct a quilt. Next time I'll try harder to figure it out myself!!!

QuiltnNan 02-19-2012 05:39 PM

LOL, I hope you are still speaking!

I am math challenged and my husband is a math whiz. I always figure out my own math, no matter how loooong it takes me because he doesn't understand quilting either. He is a great help when I want to square my quilt before doing the binding. I hope you can selvage your creation!

That's cute, snuggle up under a quilt too!

I learned the hard way also, I was squaring up a king size quilt, my husband is a construction worker, specifically ceilings (acoustical shouldn't be too much different than a quilt, right?), I asked him to help me, so what does he do, he comes over and pulls on a corner and says that should do it, I thanked him, started laughing and actually squared it up myself.

I have the Quilter's FabriCalc. Answers whatever questions I have for measuring. The person who invented this is a genius. Edie

DH was telling me about the app he found for his smart phone for figuring wood for his projects. I wished out loud that there was one for figuring fabric. Within a few minutes he found one for and added it to my phone. It is so helpful!

Caswews 02-21-2012 07:34 AM

ahhh .. fabric calculators .. yes indeed !! LOL

My hubby is my go-to guy for math help and design problems. He can always figure it out and I really appreciate it. I will rent him to you (online only!) if you need help. :)

Some day I'm going to possess a fabric calculator. Sad thing is I used to be good at math. :(

GingerK 02-21-2012 03:05 PM

My DH is a woodworker by hobby and renovator by necessity. He taught ME how to properly square up my quilt tops. Anyone looking for a decent fabric calculator, that you don't have to buy to use (yes the option to buy is there too) http://www.vrya.net/quilt/index.php I use it all the time and have found it to be quite accurate.

Ah men, gotta love 'em 'cause you can't kill 'em (and get away with it!).

AMEN ! Been there, done that. Got a weird answer !

mumzer 02-21-2012 03:51 PM

Always get my laugh for the day right here. Thanks all

GingerK, when I tried to go to your link I was told it was forbidden on my computer. I have no idea what that means other than I'm not able to get to the site. Do you have any problems using or is there something I should know but don't because I barely understand how to use my laptop. Any help greatly appreciated.

I agree, no one needs to be a math whiz with this gadget
