I chose a SONY after a very knowledgable clerk guided me through the many suggestions I had received from this Board. I have never regretted my choice.

The new lytro cameras look interesting- most expensive one is $499 and ifyou take a photo that is not in focus, you can make it sharp later on. https://www.lytro.com/camera

I
have an Olympus sz-30 that is really good and is about the same price. A friend is buying the Nikon 1 which is about $1000.00 here and is a good one as well.

I chose a sony also. to start off with, to see, if i could learn to use it, and not break the bank. a little over a $100. I orginally had an even cheaper model, but it didn't take clear pictures. this sony takes crystal clear. check out 'my jane top going together' . the lst pictures were with a cheaper model--say $40. the last pictures were with my sony.

I just purchased a Canon Power Shot Elph 310 to replace another very similar Canon that I lost. I love it. It has great zoom and also takes good video. It fits in my purse, has lots of features if I want to use them, and an auto setting that is very easy. The display screen is large for the size of camera.

I have a larger Canon that I also love but this one is small enough to carry in my purse. That makes it so much fun.

Good luck. Making photographs is so much fun.
