What kinds of toys does your dogs play with?
We have a 7 year old shih tzu dog and he loves to play with stuffed bears. Last night he chew the ear off so had to go to town today to find him another bear. I found one! He loves bears. He carries them in the house. He licks on the bear as he is giving them a bath. so cute Felix is his name and I tell him to go find bear and he brings his stuffed bear back to me. He is spoiled. |
I have a bulldog-boxer mix and she plays with everything. She has a stuffed bear (named Beary of course). We tell her to find Beary and she searches throughout the house and comes back with him. She also has a duck (headless now because she got too carried away with playing) and a stuffed raccoon toy.
She also plays with empty toilet paper and towel rolls. And everytime she eats, she plays with her kibble. Very funny to watch. |
My Tundra, a husky mix, plays with stuffed animals. His favorites are the red ones! He chews out hard eyes because when he shakes them, the hard eyes hurt him! He tosses them up in the air and then shakes the daylights out of them!
Tundra also plays his own version of "Hacky-Sack". He carefully places an object on his left front paw, flips the object, and catches it in his mouth before it hits the ground. He will find a leaf, or nut, or any found object to play with like this and will busy himself for an hour or so. He does this inside or outside! He can really shake the house when he gets going! My little rat terrier, Suzie, doesn't play! She was found in a junk yard and taken in by an older lady, so I don't know if she ever played. She does a good cuddle though! |
Rolled up socks or some "rope" made out of leftover polar fleece.

Dogs are so funny with their toys. Our dog has what used to be a stuffed bear (Fuzzy). She chewed all the stuffing out and still plays with it. She also LOVES squeaky toys...and tennis balls.
|
My dogs like to play with anything that has the noise maker in it.
When they put a hold in the toy I pick it up put it awy until they run out. Then I reswe all the torn animals anf put in new sound pieces. and there happy as a clam. not they can start all over agin tarying them up. |
Any kind of stuffy is a toy in our house. :) Gizmo and Kandi love them all. They also like any kind of small ball or rope for tug-of-war.
We need to see a photo of him with his bear. What's his name? |
Felix is his name and I will take a photo of him with his new bear.

Our dogs love the empty coke bottles, and the crunchy sound they make, and the lab ALWAYS has a ball!
|
Molly in my avatar thinks she is a retriever! She loooves tennis balls. 2nd--anything else round (I no longer have bulbs on my Christmas trees!!). My other puppy doesn't really play with toys--he just likes a good bone!

Tink loves squeaky stuffed toys...but she has such a small mouth that many are hard for her to grasp. I have found some that she goes bonkers with and loves to play tug with daddy. They growl back and forth, it is a real game to them..and then he gets the tooy a throws it for her to run. Then she shakes the heck out of it....

My first lab loved stuffed animals. But was real good not to chew on animals that weren't hers.
The lab I have now is very unique. She does not like water, and she doesn't play. She is very sweet though. Her thyroid gland doesn't work so she doesn't have much energy. I do give her medication every day. |
the youngest one, Schatzy plays with fresh picked carrots and potatoes. He flips them and chases them, Stops and takes a bite or two then he's at it again until there is nothing left. The middle dog lost his mom in a tragic dog attack when a stray came in the yard. She was trying to protect him. He adopted her toy which was a stuffed Alf doll from the TV show that one of the kids had. It is a rag now but he drags it around as if he can be comforted by it. I can't bear to throw it out. All of them love to play with the eggs from Kindersurprise candy.

My chihuahua/terrier must have a ball at all times. She plays with a Kong, golf balls and tennis balls. She will climb out olive tree to get to a ball.
|
Please be careful gining dogs fleecy and rope toys to play with. At dog training we've been inundated with dogs having surgery to remove them. Very painful for dog, very painful for hip pocket. So saying, my maltese loves his teddy and our collie loves a paintbrush. Very funny to watch.

My husband's Malamute x Staffy, Lucatoni, loves gumnuts (big seed pods of Eucalyptus trees) - We have a lot of trees on our block, so we never run out of "toys". He also has two soccer balls. My little rescue Chi x just doesn't play at all. We have had him over 4 years and he still doesn't understand the concept, despite us trying. Bit sad, but I think he had a tough time of it before coming to our house.

Thank you, lindyline, but she doesn't chew on her fleece rope, just grabs it and shakes it around, then the other dog grabs one end and they play tug of war with it.
|
A ball anytime, anywhere, and any body to throw it for him.

My dogs have a toy box in the living room. The bulldogs (well, only one now) will go through them taking stuff out and laying it aside until they get to the one they want! Its so funny.
Duchess, the one that is lost, loved to play with skateboard wheels. And they were the one thing that she couldn't destroy! LOL! She would take her nose or paw and roll them around and chase them. She had a little stuffed bear, too, that somehow managed to not get torn all to pieces, like the rest of the stuffed toys. I have that one put up, in case she ever makes it home. Daisy, the boxer/pit bull mix that I still have looooves stuffed animals. My husband is a pro with those little crane machines, and he always brings them some home. They don't usually last long, though, she tears them to pieces. She knows a "new" toy, too. Any toy that comes in this house, she goes crazy thinking its for her. She will play with the new toy for a few days, and won't touch her old toys for a while, LOL! Balls are another favorite. All types, tennis balls, basketballs, volleyballs, bouncy balls, she has about 10 floating around here. She loves to play "monkey in the middle" with them. Both of them would bring a tug rope toy to us, to get us to play. They loooove tug of war. They both love to play fetch really well, too. The "Kong" toys are my favorite. I put treats in them, and they will work all day trying to get them out. They are hard to tear up, too. I have one chihuahua that won't play at all. He wants to sit in our laps and give loves all day, LOL! But, he won't touch a toy. The other ones usually play with squeaky toys. |

They haven't came apart yet, but then again , they aren't their first choice of toys. Do you think those are ok? |
Mine just lve the squeaky ones and tennis balls
|
The tug toys I use with my yorkies are the braided fleece scraps. Those aren't dangerous are they?
|
I have a toy monger, wont let any of the others play with a toy, but his favorite is the kong, only the black ones. He will chew it up in about three months, can't even go out without it. Pesters you to go back out if he leaves it outside.

Hero loves squeaky toys, he also loves to “desqueak” them.

Sadie thinks I'm her chew toy. Heidi likes the cat. Both dogs play mostly with each other - romping, running,,,, Neither fetches or even pretends to be chasing a ball.

Diesel my eight week old Great Dane likes socks and underware. lol I don't allow him to play with them, I take them away as soon as I see him with them.
Chevy our four year old Basset Hound loves his Kong, and his twisted rope. The twisted ropes with the knots in them don't last long around here though because he chews on them until he unties the knot and then shakes the threads around until they are ALL OVER THE PLACE. He also likes to play with tenis balls. If he gets bored he will chew on it until he removes all the green stuff and has only a rubber ball left. Diesel got ahold of a piece of clothes line I was getting ready to use for a bowl! |
I have a shih tzu too! I also have a minature poodle. Then they became parents and I have a shihtzpoo! lol They love balls! Actually they play with any toy!
|
Joey loves our old leather gardening gloves, but he'll chew on anything ;-)
|
Charlie has a couple of squeaky balls that he plays with. I got them at Tractor Supply. Only place I found that particular style. I ask him "Where's your ball? Go get your ball." He looks all around and when he spots it, he gets this look on his face like "Wow! I found it!" and pounces on it. When he gets tired of chasing it down the hallway, he just refuses to bring it back to me. I got him a tennis ball once but he doesn't like the texture in his mouth. He's scared of Frisbees. He destroys stuffed animals too quick. I quit getting them because I hated cleaning up the stuffing after it was scattered all over.
