zyxquilts 02-05-2010 11:02 AM

I'm not a big sports watcher, but I do usually watch the Super Bowl. A few years back I realized that it's mostly the commercials that I was paying attention to, so now I have my own tradition for SBS - I sew during the game & stop to watch the commercials!
This year I have a couple of blocks I've commited to donate, so those I'll do first, then I'm working on my Challenge Quilt for my Guild's quilt show in May. The quilt show is "The Artist in Everyone" & the challenge theme is "Show Your Colors" (or something close to that!) I have the quilt planned out in my head - now to get in done in fabric!

When is Super Bowl Sunday?

cjomomma 02-05-2010 11:09 AM

I don't watch the super bowl either but I do love the commercials. I figure this year will be just like any other day sense my DH has to work. I will be chasing my 3yr old and trying to stop my 14 an 16 from fighting and killing each other, all while dreaming about the quilt I need to finish, the curtains I want to make for the kitchen and the next project I would love to start.
Oh well!!!! Some day????

It's this Sunday.
Our church has a big family party with a huge screen set up for the game and activities for all ages and lots of food. DH is helping set up and will stay and watch the game. (this is the only sports game he watches all year, unless one of our kid's is participating)
A couple of my LQS's have great sales on Sunday. I am still trying to decide if I am going to join the crowds and shop (I really don't NEED fabric, I just want it) I may just stay home alone all day and sew. My son will be up here for the weekend and I imagine he'll join his dad. I may go over there for a short time (It's basically down the street and across another, walking distance) Havn't decided yet.

Sharon - NC 02-05-2010 11:24 AM

I know I will not be watching the Super Bowl...and I hope I will be working on my watercolor quilt, if the kit comes in tonight or tomorrow. But I've told myself I have to get the house cleaned, groceries bought, and clothes washed first. Talk about motivation! Then again, I do live by myself ... so who cares if Idon't get that stuff done? ;-)

KBunn 02-05-2010 11:36 AM

I plan on getting all the "game food" ready ...setting up everything...the kicking back and enjoy the afternoon of being able to sew because everyone else will be occupied!! I enjoy the game too but I can see it from my machine so its the best of both for me!!

skyle1968 02-05-2010 11:37 AM

I will for sure be watching the Super Bowl. I don't know who to root for though hehe I am originally from Indiana and now live in Louisiana. I'm thinking about making me a shirt with half colts & half saints :o)

ToucanSam 02-05-2010 11:47 AM

We're going to watch the game with some friends. Frankly, I'd rather stay home and do something quilting-related since I'm not a huge fan of either team, but like them both. Just not really enough to get excited, even though I live in Louisiana!

So, in sum, hang out, eat, and drink a little. Just a little. :)

mamaw 02-05-2010 11:49 AM

Sit on the couch with the game on, watch every commercial, eat, and do some wool applique too.

BKinCO 02-05-2010 12:19 PM

Well, apparently "we" don't have a stake in this years game, so it's going to be very low key. There won't be a moment of football action missed, though...at least by certain male members of my family. I'll catch the commercials :)

knlsmith 02-05-2010 12:21 PM

i am SOOOOOOOOOO going to the quilt shop in Avon!! I work with her hubby and they are having a sale on EVERYTHING!

WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!

dakotamaid 02-05-2010 12:58 PM

Sew or shop! All the quilt stores around me will be open. If I sew it will be on the wedding quilt I'm making. Lots of arcs to do yet!

redkimba 02-05-2010 01:18 PM

I will be playing some D&D with some friends. (yes, all this & she quilts also...)

pee wee 02-05-2010 01:43 PM

I will be watching our Saints. Who Dat gonna win the Super Bowl!!!!!!!

sew cornie 02-05-2010 01:51 PM

I love football but once the Cowboys were eliminated . . . .

I'll be hosting an open house for Oregon and Washington board members on Sunday afternoon. Yippee! May be up to a dozen of us getting together. Will be lots of fun!

OdessaQuilts 02-05-2010 02:15 PM

My LQS is having a "Sit and Sew" from 9:30 - 5:00, so I'll be there. They'll have chili & crackers, and hot water for coffee and tea. We take our machines, anything we may want to share with others, our own beverages (if want sometihkng special), and whatever projects we want to work on. I've not been to one before, so I'm excited.

Now, just how much of my stash can I be reasonably expected to use up???????????????????

Jingle 02-05-2010 02:39 PM

I will be sewing the binding on my Son's quilt trying to get it done, so I can start another one. We don't watch any sports.

Wine Woman 02-05-2010 02:43 PM

First I'm stopping at my favorite quilt store for their sale-doesn't happen often. I have to take advantage of this one. Then off to Sew Cornie's house to meet some quilting friends from OR and WA! Yipppeeeee I can't wait! Doing the happy dance!

Rhonda 02-05-2010 02:57 PM

I'm watching the Super Bowl!! I sit and sew and listen to TV all the time so not much differant from any other day.

QuiltingGrannie 02-05-2010 03:07 PM

Super Bowl?????
What super bowl?

OH! That's the game that is played between all the new and great commercials! ;)

Yeah, I watch for the commercials. We tend to make all snakc breaks and other breaks during the game and do our best to be there for the commercials.

We are having my DD and son in law over to watch and just enjoy being together. Kid's want pizza so that will be easy - order it and son in law will pick it up on his way here from work.

Whatever you are doing on Sunday during that time ---- enjoy.

KGoodhand 02-05-2010 03:13 PM

I am going to my LQS for a ladies super bowl party!
It starts at 11:00 and goes until 7:00 and we are making a quilt top! We had to sign up ad for the cost of the get together we each got all the material for the top and binding! She includes all the food and drinks as well!! I am so looking forward to it! Myself and two of my friends are going! I have never been this excited for superbowl!!!!!

littlehud 02-05-2010 07:47 PM

I love football so I'll be watching the game, enjoying the commercials and eating goodies.

sewjoyce 02-06-2010 08:34 AM

I'll be in my sewing room. Don't much care for football but this year the Indianapolis Colts will be in it and since I'm in Indiana, I'm sure I'll tune in every now and then. GO COLTS!

Now this afternoon, there will be a NASCAR race (go TONY) so I'll be glued to the TV in a bit. This is the 1st race of the season and I'm having race withdrawals...

gma2JR BT JL and CK 02-06-2010 11:41 AM

I will probably listen to the game, we have no cable, and sew some borders on a RR and get some blocks ready to applique for a block swap. Yes next week is the big one for me. I too love to watch and listen to NASCAR go Tony and Dale Jr for hubby. Have a great week everyone. Happy Valentine's day

QuiltingGrannie 02-06-2010 12:39 PM

I'm with you sewjoyce

My DH, his daughter, her husband their son and I watch NASCAR and each have different favorite drivers. It gets interesting via phone as the kids live in PA and we are in TN. but there are frequent phone calls on race day.

GO TONY, DALE JR, J GORDON, KASEY KANE AND (I forgot who our grandson roots for I think Kenseth)

sewnsewer2 02-06-2010 07:43 PM

Well, my son wants to go to wally world, I want to quilt and DH is golfing. Big football fans here huh?

BellaBoo 02-06-2010 08:18 PM

I don't have a sport bone in my body. Me watching sports is the most boringest thing I know of. I use to dread going to my kids'games with a smile and pretending to enjoy it. Yep I faked it! I'll be in my sewing room or out shopping. DH will be watching the game in his man cave with friends. He can make sandwiches or call for delivery. It's his day and he can have it. LOL

AliceQ 02-06-2010 08:19 PM

No time for football, that's for sure!
DH and I will be driving our Marine son from northeast Ohio to Pittsburgh to catch a bus to Camp Lejeune in NC. Please pray for our travel and pray he is able to report for duty on time! This Mom is worried, but I'm trusting in a God much bigger than any snow storm!
When we get back home, I hope to still have time to get fabric cut and ready for a quilting/sewing getaway in Pa. this coming 4-day weekend.
Alice

Gramof6 02-06-2010 09:35 PM

I agree with BellaBoo...sports does bore me, but I do enjoy the commercials during the Super Bowl. I will probably make a run to the LQS's because they are having special Sales. Then home to do some handwork & sit with DH while he watches the game. For those that do enjoy it, Have a great time!

janRN 02-07-2010 05:51 AM

Aliceq: hope you made it to Pittsburgh safely thru all the snow. I know people were stranded on the turnpike for up to 11 hours. Praying for his safe journey and thanking him for his service to our country.

And yes-we'll be watching the Superbowl. I love sports esp baseball and football. We can't go anywhere anyhow today until the snow plow (or spring LOL) comes to my neighborhood.

Barbm 02-07-2010 09:15 AM

Commercial watcher here too! Probably will be sewing. Got invited to a party, but I like to relax here. Too many real fans there.

Well, bus was canceled so we started looking for a flight and his SSgt said he'd do what he could. Right now he's to report to SSgt's office tomorrow morning and we'll see what happens from there. I'm surprised I'm not grey!
But this way I am able to go fabric shopping with my friend this afternoon! In prep for our getaway next weekend.
Please keep praying my son can get to Camp Lejeune in time to keep from getting in trouble with the Marines!
God bless you all and have a great day!
AliceQ

DH is recovering from surgery so the kids are coming to visit at various times. DH will watch the game, I'll go to the sewing studio. Either to start a new quilt or plan a backing for the one I just finished. Maybe quilt a baby quilt ;-)

Sandra Craig 02-07-2010 01:28 PM

I'm watching and rooting for the COLTS

Lisanne 02-07-2010 01:31 PM

So which teams are playing? Has anyone won yet?

(Actually I don't the game has started yet....hehe)

Lisanne 02-07-2010 02:37 PM

Oh. LOL!

sewjoyce 02-07-2010 02:45 PM

But I didn't answer your question. The Indianapolis Colts vs The Saints. (The only reason I know it's the "Indianapolis Colts" is because I LIVE in Indiana and would have to be dead not to see all the Colt stuff, deaf not to hear about it and really stupid not to at least pretend to root for them -- my BFF would hurt me...)

Lisanne 02-07-2010 04:31 PM

Yeah, I know how that is.

So, someone else know where the Saints hail from?

I have to say, these aren't team names I'm used to seeing at Super Bowl time. But then knowing me, maybe I'm thinking of the Rose Bowl instead.

Jim's Gem 02-07-2010 04:41 PM

Lisanne, the Saints are from New Orleans.
There is a young man on that team that's a local boy from here. I think that reason alone has my DH and son rooting for the Saints.
They're over at the church. I just got home from fabric shopping. I will probably go over for a short visit, (since it takes about 1 min to drive there) then I am sewing!!!
