Several times lately when I go to my mail box and try to open a thread it just comes up to the home page. Am I missing something other than my mail? Why is this happening? This has been happening way too often and I'm finding it EXTREMELY IRRITATING. It's like there's some over zealous police officer arresting and locking up my mail.

cjomomma 06-19-2010 05:44 AM

Sometimes a thread gets deleted and when it does you will be taken to the home page.

raptureready 06-19-2010 05:47 AM

Why? If I wasn't interested I wouldn't be reading that thread. It's similar to having someone jerk a book out of my hands. I'm not 6 yrs old, I can determine for myself what I read. As long as there's no swearing, porn or other vulgarity in it it's really no one else's business. I don't tell others what they can or can not read. I've got a very long fuse and usually don't get upset over much but this is starting to rub me like rough sandpaper.

marsye 06-19-2010 05:49 AM

I know what you mean! Well said!

cjomomma 06-19-2010 05:51 AM

Well I understand your frustration. You can always try to PM administration and ask why and see if you get an answer.

raptureready 06-19-2010 05:51 AM

You look younger, Marsye. New night cream?

If they're the over zealous thread police then they'll read this too. It's almost like someone has a personal agenda or vindetta. Oh well, I'll get over it. I don't stay mad too long. If it continues to irritate me then I'll just leave. I'd hate to though because other than this one thing I really like this board. Most of the time people are really nice.

I agree! So do many other members that have PM'ed me.

cjomomma 06-19-2010 05:58 AM

Oh no don't leave because of this. Don't take it personal.

I'm not taking it personally, I don't think it's directed at me at all. I'm just saying that I'm an adult and as long as I'm interested in what's being posted and it's not Religious, Political, Porn or Swearing then it should be left alone.

BTW, Thank you for caring enough to answer. I'm not mad at the people on the board, just upset that this keeps happening. The general people on this board have become like a second family---I don't always agree with them but I still love 'em. But for the record, I wouldn't let my family do something like this either without making my opinion known.

I'm going to sign off here now and go garage saleing. Maybe find some bargains to put me in a better mood. Love to haggle over pricing---talked a lady down to only $20 Thursday night for an 18" flat screen monitor that works like new. Just thinking about it lifts my spirits.

I think you must be Benjamin Button's sister!

kathy 06-19-2010 06:21 AM

what thread in particular are you speaking of? it's easier to figure out what happened with some details.

sweet 06-19-2010 06:29 AM

sometimes it's best to move forward instead of rehashing old wounds

Candace 06-19-2010 07:51 AM

I've also notice a lot of posts being deleted here too. No other forum that I belong to does this....

sharon b 06-19-2010 09:22 AM

I have never locked a thread so I can't speak for others, but in general if a thread goes off track , for example, it starts out with one purpose and then goes in a complete different direction, it might get locked. If the thread has a "tone" to it that has no purpose but to upset others members , it might get locked.

If you have a thread that gets locked or deleted please feel free to contact Admin or Patrice for an explanation .

I agree, I don't like people making decisions for me. If there is a thread that I don't like, I simply don't read it. But I detest people who do things supposedly for my good. I'll make my own judgement calls, thank you.

I read a couple of other forums where posts and whole topics are deleted for various reasons. I have also been on unmoderated forums and they tend to have regular and sometimes continuing blow ups.

When the moderators decide to delete a thread on the board, it's not for YOUR good, it's for the good of the group, or if you like, the good of the Board. The Board would not be able to continue if flaming and hate became the norm. The group would disintegrate if people's feelings were continually being hurt.

I've had some of my posts and threads deleted in the past, not because I was saying anything wrong, but because others took things in a bad direction. Sometimes nothing was wrong, but the topic was deemed to have the potential for becoming too hot to handle. (Health insurance is one example of such a thread topic.)

I'm not happy when I see something of mine deleted, or even someone else's thread that I was following with interest, but them's the rules.

I suppose anyone could start another quilter's forum elsewhere on the web and make their own rules, if they can't live with these.

There's been several here lately--mostly in the last couple of weeks, say maybe three. Anyway, I'm over it. I just hope it stops. Chit chat should be for exactly that.

Wanna hear what I bought today???? Not too profitable except for one thing. I got a kingsize white bedspread to embroider. Plus, it had all the thread with it too. When I got it home and unfolded it I discovered that about a third of it has already been done and done beautifully! I can't wait to get started on finishing it. It has birds in the center and a flowered border. The price of this great find???? $1.00 !!! That's right, only one dollar!!! I'm happy now.

Gee Rapture, you made out well on the flat screen monitor and on your the bedspread is just the most awesome find!!! Can't wait to see your pics of it when finished.

debbieumphress 06-19-2010 08:35 PM

I went garage saleing too today. My find was two pillowcases for a quarter each and they were hand quilted and looked to be old. I love old quiltie things. I was so proud when I brought them home. Good find Raptureready.
I notice when posts are deleted also but I am also thankful this board is here for me. I will follow their rules, and try not to take it personally. I need and like this board. It's their board and we are guests here. Like you, I will simply go out if it is something I think will escalate. There are so many personalities to deal with on here. I say 99% good and the other 1%, sorry...

Rainy Day 06-19-2010 10:45 PM

I use another site that is moderated, and I find that they leave the thread title, and the reason for the removal on for about week eg Racial Vilification, Breach of Forum Rules, Just Plain Rude, Innappropriate, Foul Language etc, I think that this is helpful as it reminds people of how the forum/board works.

Admin 06-20-2010 03:22 PM

I'm locking this thread to bring it all into one place. Continued here:
