What's outside your quilting window?

I believe there was a thread here last year with this subject....now that it's cooler and the garden is about put to bed for the winter, there is more time to sew!

Beautiful. Colors are at their peak here now. Unfortunately, I don't have such a nice view outside my window.
My patio faces a row of garages. At least they buffer the noise from the firetruck.
You have a lovely view! So do I. I stationed my sewing machine directly in front of a window so I could be a nosy neighbor--I mean--enjoy the activity of neighbors and their pets and their friends! The colors haven't really started to change here yet.
My veg garden and woods out one window and our firepit and woods out the other. Gonna lose that view soon though as we doing an addition, and a new upstairs bedroom will have that viee when we are done.
I love in the country so I can see our big pecan trees in the front yard and onto the field that is beyond.
The New York skyline just across the Hudson River, with the Empire State Building directly opposite us. The cruise ships are right opposite too, a ferry runs every half hour between NY and NJ, there's always something to see.
Mine is my backyard I get to watch my dogs and cats playing or snoozing. Plus all the squirrels and birds coming in to eat. But here lately I just get to watch the storms and rain. :(
I have a Magnolia bush which my sister in law and family gave me when my husband died. I also have, in that area, a bird bath, bird feeders and I can sit there and sew away and watch the birds enjoying their day. Will be putting up an "oasis" this winter with a few more shepherd's crooks and hang more bird feeders, suet feeders and hangers for peanut butter and oranges and apples! We are on the top of a hill and I can see neighbors walking by and waving to them and cars and bikers. It is a neat place to be and when I need a bit of a break, I take my little Bungee chair from Target and slide over to the Yamaha Klavinova and play for a bit and limber up those old fingers and then go back to my sewing. Life is good! Edie

Unfortunately my window faces the street and my ugly neighbors and their way too many vehicles. We are planing to put in a front patio with walls and plants so we won't have to see the ugly across the street. We had a nice neighborhood until this bunch moved in.
My view is the pasture edged with turning color trees and grazing sheep. Very restful and calming. Diane C

A bradford pear tree is about 15' from my window, then there's the front yard which slopes downhill (pretty steep). Then there's the road, and the house across the street. It's a pretty typical subdivision view.
Although we like our subdivision and our neighbors, DH and I are hoping to find a place a little further out in the country. It'll be awhile though, since our house needs some cosmetic work (paint, mostly) before we can put it up for sale. |

Oh jill that is so pretty I love your view. . Currently my sewing room is also the guest room with a covered patio and then looks into part of the back yard. .I have a friend who I occasionally quilt with on nice days we set the machines up on the patio and the cutting and ironing stations up inside. . It works out quite well. To the left side is a small seating area a couple of chairs and small table

I love every season outside my sewing room. Looking into our backyard and the woods beyond:
Pretty! I have a tree just like that out my window.
I see a quilt out of that picture ! <I know a quilters brain>!
On one side I have the side of the house the Inlaws live in. Out the other window I see trees, flowers, and my patio. |
We live in the middle of the Green Mountains in Vermont. I sew on the second level next to a huge window that frames the mountains and we have a large bird feeder on a pully. Always activity at the feeder. When I hand sew I go in the front room that has a window that allows close views of the hummingbird feeder and the suet feeder. Chirping wherever I go!
Horses in pastures, the top of Mr St. Helens, geese practicing Take-off & Landings in the corn field behind me. Busy Humming bird feeders....Ahhhhhh!
My quilt room is on the second floor on a hill so I get to see the tops of the pine trees and a very tiny part of a hillside. I also get to see the sky and the sunset. Lucky me.
Pretty pictures and descriptions! I envy those who can sew outdoors year round!
Just having a quilt room makes you lucky. Enjoy ladies and I am happy for those who have a sewing room.
I can see the leafless trees and my Husband's shed where he keeps yard working things. In the summer and fsll I have a window A/C in front of me. When I stand up I can see the backyard.
Your tree is beautiful, we mostly have oak trees and they get brown leaves. I mainly sew so it doesn't bother me. Will soon be dark when I sew in the evenings. |

Can not get pic from my files to load here and I am very sorry as I would like to share.
Oh it did work
My sewing room window faces the parking lot of the condo development I live in. :) However, there is a rather huge tree directly across from the window that looks pretty in all seasons, so it's not so terrible.
I look out onto my front lawn, some knock-out rose bushes and several trees. It's not a bad view if I don't look at the neighboring properties to the right or left.
Morningstar that is beautiful is that a river in the background? Wildyard awesome color I bet you have tons of beauty every season.
There are some really pretty views nice places to create. |

http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=495367&stc=1this is my view, I have a small alcove that I share with the washer and drier, but it has 2 big windows and enough space for a cutting table and 2 sewing machines!
My window looks out into my yard and the woods beyond. This time of year the foliage is very pretty and there are lots of geese flying by as they head south for the winter!
My sewing room is in my front room, so my view overlooks the front porch and the front yard which is currently depressingly brown and dead due to the drought. I usually keep the blinds closed, though, because there are way too many door-to-door salespeople who ignore our "no soliciting" sign. If they can't see me, I can just ignore them when they ring the bell. If the blinds are open, it's much harder to pretend I'm not home!
DH & I are in the process of getting estimates to have our whole front lawn ripped out, though. Grass is just a waste of water and we don't use that yard (it's tiny and has no fence) so might as well make it pretty and interesting. A couple of our neighbors have nice xeriscaped front yards and I'd like to do the same; fill the yard space with a couple of nice boulders that match the rock facing on the house, and surround them with local flora that doesn't need much work (or water!) to stay happy. That might tempt me to keep the blinds open! |
Out two windows, is my front yard. I see my lovely Catalpa tree blowing in a gentle breeze. :) Though I do have some "top down, bottom up" type blinds so nosey neighbors can't see my doings. Windows are tall enough that I can still see blue sky, sunshine, and my tree. :)

What an interesting thread from Coast to Coast and all in-between. Since my cat and I live in a big tri-level house in California in the SF Bay Area alone I have great views from all windows with a terraced back yard still in bloom across the back for we are on side of a hill. From the front upstairs sewing room I see the houses across the street and a wild park hill behind them. I certainly know the views well for have been in this house for 51 years (so far) and been confined for several weeks by a fall in my own kitchen resulting in 8 broken ribs and a punctured lung, can't quilt because can't lift the iron, darn. But soon, for I'm almost well even though the old gray mare and I have much in common.
My sewing room is on the second floor in the front of the house. One window looks out over our street (we're at the top of a cul-de-sac on a hill, so we can see what all the neighbors are up to :) ) and the other window looks into a maple that turns the most gorgeous shade of orangey-gold this time of year.
This view is looking east and I actually have better pics. This is overlooking the Pigeon Lake which is in Central Ontario Canada --if looking at the map you will see it not far from the city of Peterbough

Farmland. The cornstalks are now brown....waiting for harvest. Faces East...the sunrises are awesome! Always changing landscape!
Sandy your photo inspires an attic window panel project! Beautiful! |
From my sewing room I look into the middle of the the trees. I live in the woods. Lately I've seen a lot of rain. Usually I see birds and nests , and squirrels. now I see colored leaves, reds, yellow and orange. It's beautiful up here.
