Where to ask question...
.....on thread info for machine embroidery....newbie at it.....
|
All my friends that do machine embroidery use poly thread. It's strong and colorfast.
|
Poly is more colorfast. Rayon has a nice sheen, but not quite as durable. Allstitch is a great place to shop, especially for stabilizer. They have a great page of instructional links:
http://www.allstitch.net/department/...info-10242.cfm Emblibrary also has great info: http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Help.aspx As you knowt, this board's emphasis is on quilting, but specific embroidery questions may be answered. There are several BBs out there who's emphasis is on machine embroidery. If you google you will find them. |
Metroemb.com has wonderful embroidery thread at good prices. both their metro and sigma lines are polyester.
|
Paper princess..thanks for the info on emb. Sources. Yes, I do know this is primarily a quilting formation site..but also know many here do dabble in embroidery so wanted some starter info...and thought I would throw out the question...just went to a class and "stuck my toe in the water".........
Sorry, but don't know what BB stands for......... ------- board? |
There's a thread on this site, called Embroidery Machines Lets Chat & Have Fun. It's not super-active, but I've learned a lot from it.

Thanks for that....... |
I use poly or silk depending on what I am making. On most things I use poly but if it is for something fancy on fine thin fabric I use silk.

My thread of choice is Floriani Polyester Thread. It has an AMAZING
sheen like rayon thread, but with the strength of poly. A little pricer than some of the other brands, but the spools tend to have MORE thread than some of the other brands (like Madeira thread). This is of course MY personal preference for thread. |
My best friend is also a newbie with her machine. You learn a lot by just going for it. You can always go searching in the advance search and see previous post about these machines.
