Where to find “belting”used in thread catcher

I have read numerous tutorials on how to make a thread catcher with a weighted pin cushion. Where do you find the belting?. I checked Jo-Ann and Hobby Lobby. Also what do u use for the weighted pin cushion in place of the crushed or ground walnut shells?

I bought a thread catcher with a pin cushion that feels like it has a ceramic tile as the base. By belting, do you mean the webbing strips like some totes have? If so, I know Joann's has them.

i used the nylon/plastic strapping that appliance boxes and such are secured with.

Joanns. It's sold by the yard.

The webbing straps can be bought at Seattle Fabrics at the store, online, or by catalog. I used the crushed walnut shells found as Lizard Litter at a pet supplies store. This same crushed walnut shells were used in some gun rests used for a 4-H Shooting Sports group.

If you are ever in the Seattle area, it is worth a trip to Seattle Fabrics. The catalog is a fun read. Anyone who ever sews outdoor items can benefit from the catalog. I have bought some nice lycra knit there for cycling tights, also some polar fleece.

I just asked a guy at Walmart who was unpacking boxes if I could have a length as he was throwing it out. He gave me enough for several thread catchers.

I was behind a furniture store one day and saw a big piece of strapping! Works great!

I just made my own straps from the same fabric as the bag. They worked out fine. If you are going to use a tile for the weight, wrap it in a scrap of batting so that the corners will not wear thru the fabric.

You can use an embroidery hoop in place of the belting. I used uncooked rice in place of walnut shells.
