Where are they?

I am fairly sure that I have a group of themed fabrics - I finally found some of them - but I still think there should be some more.

Anyone else have things disappear - and you think you looked "everywhere logical" for them?

Iceblossom 11-03-2019 07:12 AM

Sure. Here's the thing, if you go out and get something to replace them after giving up on finding them, they will fall on your head the next time you come through the door.

Sometimes that is my fast trick for finding something :p Most recently it worked on my bottle of spray baste.

I've been pulling metallic fabrics out of my stash for the last year and thought I'd gotten them all. I keep finding little bundles stuck in here and there.

And then sometimes my husband's selective hearing comes into play. Like "don't put that in the storage unit" turns into "put that in the storage unit"...

But my other good trick is to put something "some place safe" only for it to disappear for the next five years.

KalamaQuilts 11-03-2019 07:38 AM

Just my 2 cents...keep looking ;)

Then look in the illogical places! :D

Usually when I lose something that seems to obvious not to lose, it's right where it should be ....
but ..... tucked in under or between something else so that it doesn't show.

Good Luck in your search ..... but think of all the "finds" you will discover during that quest!
You'll have to tell us the surprises you come across ... and the things you have forgotten about! :)

They are over there somewhere same as my new ruler I just bought and can't find. LOL

SusieQOH 11-03-2019 11:11 AM

I spent 3 days last week giving my sewing room a thorough cleaning and sorting.
Now I'm terrified I won't be able to find anything :D

quiltingshorttimer 11-03-2019 12:21 PM

sewing room--all the time--right now I'm looking for some fabrics I won from Art Gallery Fabrics to make my DD a duffle for Christmas--that's what happens when I clean up my sewing room!
And while in Houston this weekend I realized I didn't have my debit card, so called to suspend it. Spent time last night when we got home and again for about 5 hrs today looking Everywhere--all clothing pockets, car, old purses, etc. Finally gave up and sitting here in my chair and got up and lifted up the cushion and could see it wedge there. Have no idea how it ended up there!

juliasb 11-03-2019 01:11 PM

I searched for my holiday fabrics for a year and a half. I did not find them for last year, so no holiday fabric sewing projects. I found them only a couple months ago in an under the bed bin. Opps! I thought I had looked there while doing my search. Well I have plenty for this year with no doubt. My thought... keep looking don't buy more it is bound to show up when you least expect it.

I know I have a hand mixer. At least I used to have a hand mixer. I can't find it. Maybe it quit working and I threw it away, but it seems like I would remember that. Or maybe it's still in a kitchen cabinet, hiding. I wouldn't have taken it elsewhere in the house... would I?

One could, but this one didn't.

dunster 11-03-2019 03:16 PM

I found my hand mixer!!! In the back of a cabinet, inside a ziplock bag. Best of all, the beaters were in there too. I was planning to order a new one if I didn't find it today. Sometimes it pays to keep looking.

Great work Sherlock! :)
........ did you find Bear's missing fabric?

Jingle 11-03-2019 04:52 PM

Yes, I have done that and still haven't found two items I hid in a safe place. Must have been real safe as I have looked and looked and still not found them. Nothing sewing related.

DebbieJJ 11-04-2019 03:21 AM

Well, they must be hiding with my special pair of sewing glasses. I had an extra pair of computer glasses that I use for sewing and I keep them on my sewing machine cabinet (I wear bifocals, but my computer glasses are the bifocal part all over the lens). I haven't found them in the last 2 weeks, but I know they are in my sewing room somewhere!

sandy l 11-04-2019 04:25 AM

Well, for two days now, we've been looking for the can of upholster cleaner. He keeps saying, "I know it's here somewhere, don't think I've thrown it out, not sure but I may have 'cause the scrubber brush that came with it, may have been broken" I guess the hunt will continue:)

MaggieLou 11-04-2019 06:42 AM

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. Then I find it in the one place I've looked several times. We just moved a few months ago and I'm still trying to get my sewing room set up. Movers put boxes everywhere but where they should go. At least my sewing and embroidery machines were put in the right place. Now if I can just find everything else. lol

trolleystation 11-04-2019 08:16 AM

Stop looking today and wait two days and then look again. It works for me.

Doggramma 11-04-2019 08:36 AM

They’re probably hiding out with a quilt pattern I got in Hawaii. I bought a kit and have the fabric. Who knows where the pattern went.

M cubed 11-04-2019 10:18 AM

Putting something away where "I know it belongs/will be safe" is the kiss of death for me. I lose quilt patterns for years, some of my favorite crochet hooks are still missing after 15 years. They always turn up when least convenient and long after I need them OR right after I have given up and bought a new one. Murphy's Law. Oh well.

QuiltnLady1 11-04-2019 03:14 PM

heavens yes. When we moved I put my important papers in a safe place and still haven't found all of them (had to get duplicates). I have/had a quilt book that had a pattern I wanted to make for DIL - I found the fabric but not the pattern and now the fabric is hiding again.

Jaiade 11-04-2019 05:14 PM

Many years ago in my early quilting life I thought I wanted to make a double wedding ring quilt. I bought Quilting from the Heartland's templates large and small and one called Speedy Cut for the DWR. Move forward to about 1 year ago and I found a box of templates for rotary cutter and a few magazines. I went though them and the bug began nibbling again to make a DWR. I decided to see what fabrics I had in some shoe boxes that were set aside for particular patterns and maybe use them for something else. Now I will say here that I have never made a DWR quilt. I own one that my mother made for me but I've never made one(and have three different sets of templates).
Now this box of templates sat until I decided what to do with them. And sat, and sat....... I did cut some arcs (the whole not the pieced) back when I got the Heartland templates. They sat, and sat, and are still sitting. The only thing I can think of is that I heard about the difficulty of making this quilt. Back to the shoe boxes. I found in a blue hinged box the makings for a blue DWR. Pieced arcs, a few melons and three large centers(don't know what they're called) already pieced with the melons and arcs. This board gets the credit for sparking my interest in DWR's again(Myert, etc.);) so I decided to work on it some more. I didn't remember it until I saw it again. Soooo..... I finished sewing all the arcs that I could until I realized I needed the end pieces to finish over 40 arcs.
Now all the templates are still sitting and waiting in their packaging and some in ziploc bags with their packaging.
I didn't know which pattern I used. But I was thinking it was Heartland. No, it was Speedy Cut which was one piece with different markings for the different parts. And you guessed it, that is no longer in there. Everything is except the template. I distinctly remember it being there when I first rediscovered this box but not now. I've looked through the box 3 times and have finally taken all the templates and put them in their new home in an office file rack, easily accessible. All the ideas suggested above I have thought about except buying another one. I don't think they're sold any more. My next step, since I started and want to finish it, is to take an end piece and make a template and cut about 80 pieces (blue scrappy), which I don't want to do, but It's been a week of searching without any positive results.
If I wasn't trying to clear out some things, I'd put it back in the box for another 20+ years!:D

ladyinpurple135 11-06-2019 11:19 AM

Aaahhh - you all have been visited by Aunt Helen! She comes and hides things while you look for hours, days, weeks, etc. Then that item appears in just the place it was supposed to be and you’ve looked at that place many times. She does this to make us think we’re going off the rails!!! So when this happens (to me all the time!) just blame it on Aunt Helen - she’ll return the item - eventually, especially as someone said, right after you buy a replacement. I have several rulers, etc. that I’ve purchased twice (or even more)

Ah, yes. The "safe" place. I've used that several times and lost things for ages.

GingerK 11-08-2019 05:22 AM

When we moved 2 1/2 years ago, I must have packed my 'safe place' without emptying it. Still looking for things that I thought I had re-discovered when I was packing for the move. Glad to know I am not alone. Sigh.

Jaiade 11-08-2019 01:10 PM

I'm almost embarrassed to say I found my ruler for the DWR. Because I found it in a place I would have never looked because I had no idea rulers were there and I thought I had seen it when I saw all the others! Oh well. Now I will work on my first DWR. Yea!

mmunchkins 11-08-2019 06:43 PM

I cleaned out my sewing room for my adult son to move into. Took everything out and now I can't find two completed quilts, one twin size and one crib size, anywhere. I have searched through this house several times. It is driving me crazy!

zozee 11-08-2019 08:42 PM

Bear—could they still be in your car? I have left things in the trunk to go back for, then forgot because it wasn’t urgent. Then time passed and the trunk had long ago been forgotten as the last place I saw the thing.

At least it’s fabric and not raw chicken.

bearisgray 11-08-2019 09:32 PM

Have not found what I was looking for. However, did find some stuff I had forgotten about - and/or is in the " why do I have this?" category.
