I live in central Maine and have all my life. We built our house in 1968 and we are still in it. Have 25 acres and plenty of elbow room..I love living here (except the winters)! I hate the cold months but the summers are great and this year it seemed to go on forever. My daughter and her family moved to Phoenix AZ ten yrs ago and I miss seeing them. It's quite possible that a move to AZ is possible at some point but I'm not ready at this point. I have a number of good friends I'd sure hate to leave.
Ask me this same question in February, I may have a plane ticket in hand! LOL |
I had always wanted to go to alaska and I finally got to about three years ago. I absolutely loved it there and would love to live there, in Juno
|
We live in "upstate" New York at the base of the catskill mountains and the shawangunk mountains. Not too far from West Point. We're close enough to NYC to see a play or show; about 1 and 1/2 hours. Its really pretty here but getting very crowded. Many are moving here from the Bronx. I daydream about moving when we retire, but we will see. We have good friends and the kids are here. I'd love to live in Idaho - its in the middle of all the states I love and I also love Alaska. Darn, I love the beach in Massachusetts too. I think we will have to travel about like my parents did for 10 years. That's my super dream.

got outa Dodge about 5 months after highschool graduation just after getting married. Went back for a year then left again...raised 3 kids and was working on the grandkids then got outta Dodge again to the Southwest. Love it here but looking forward to someday moving back to Dodge...(either one WV or OH) some day.

Born a Jersey girl, and loved living there. All those stories about how awful NJ is - we make them up so people won't move here!
The big problem with NJ is the taxes. (Those stories are true!) Had to move to SC where the taxes are much lower. We love our home and have become 'vacation central' for the rest of the family who are still in NJ. Nonetheless, we go back and forth to NJ at least monthly because we haven't sold the NJ house yet. My sister lives in it and pays the taxes for us - we both benefit from that! Hint for anyone thinking of moving to a different state: Rent a house or apartment for 6 months in the city and state you're thinking of moving to. If you like it, then move. If you don't, you just go back home. |
I've lived in MO, KS, VA, CA and Idaho. We had been stationed here in Idaho before we were PCSed to VA. When DH was medically retired, we knew we wanted to come back here to live. Albeit, not the town we're in now, but about 50 miles or so west.
At the time there was just no way for us to be able to afford anything that would house all of us, so we're here, but come 2 years and 11 months, we're moving... well I say we are, but I've given it up to God and he'll decide when the time is right for us. |

I finally live in a beautiful place where I can have any size dog I want. I have a huge malamute/Shephard/Wolf. Yukon King is my service dog. I always had cats, as a renter, but this is MY dirt now! I love my life, my DH, my dog, and my cat. (OK, I love his critters too!)
We have to watch him in a high wind with those ears! Bruno is all black except for one white whisker. |
I am totally in love where I live. It's pretty rural, desert. The whole county is 4000 people. I know my neighbors. Going to the grocery store is like a place to meet friends. It's quiet at night. The air is clear. I don't lock my door. My kitty is allowed to go outside and play at her will. The sky is dark at night and the stars are beautiful. It takes literally minutes to be in wilderness. It's a fantastic place and nuthin' can get me out of here!

I live 1 mile away from where I was born. Small rural area in Missouri. We don't really even have a town, just a post office and gas station. Its a quiet, simple life here. I belong here.

I hate where I live, which is Sacramento. I lived for 5 years in the Portland, Or. area and would move back there in a flash if I could. Sacramento is dry, brown and way to hot. Oregon is green and more green, cooler and has great fruit and berries, which I love. Our house is paid off so I don't see us moving anytime soon. We don't want payments again.

i live in a good town, but i don't like it here. it's not city and not country. i moved to the suburbs for my kids and never escaped.
now i have to live where a kid lives, so here i am. |

I love where I live now (AZ). The biggest part of that is because of the weather. I grew up in NY state and lived in Utica as an adult for 18 years and just got tired of the long winters and dreary falls. Upstate NY is absolutely beautiful, but it was time for a change. I now don't have to shovel snow (from driveway AND roof), mow lawns, rake leaves, etc. That means more quilting time!!

We moved here 21 years ago from So. California and though it's a bit tougher to make a living, we are living just fine!! Less stress and traffic. There's a beautiful lake less than a mile from our home, mountains, golf courses, including one with a floating green, hunting, fishing, snow sports, and hiking. Do I do any of those activities, no!! Neither does DH but love it here anyway!! I just miss lifelong friends and Mom in So. California, but I do get to visit fairly often. If I had the chance to move, I wouldn't, this is the place to be, snow and all!!

This is really interesting to read. I'm a 4th generation CA person. I lived in a small town (too clickey), then on a ranch (25 mi. from nearest town) and now in North Orange Co. of So. Cal. I really like where we live. It is not a small town but sort of a bedroom community. I used to walk to work at a large univ. We can walk to our church. Our grandkids are here. When we shop, we often see friends. There are a lot of quilt stores close by. It is a little hot in summer, but a good place to live. Placentia, CA

I love where I live & wouldn't like to live anywhere else. I grew up on a farm & when I moved to town it took me along time to adjust to city living. I really missed the peace & quiet of the country but now I'm used to it but still miss the country some. Everybody wonders how we can stand to live where it is so cold in the winter but it actually makes you hardier. I wouldn't want to live where there isn't any change of seasons. There's nothing better than to have those first warm days in the spring & know that summer is coming. I'll gladly put up with our snow & cold weather verses hurricanes, earthquakes, wild fires, mudslides etc. I guess I'm just a good ole North Dakotan at heart. I do like to visit other states but always look forward to coming home.

I was raised in Missoula, Montana -- beautiful country but tough winters. I spent 25 years in Boise, Idaho, and loved it there. Didn't realize how much, tho, until I left. We've been in Honolulu nearly 15 years.
We love Hawaii and the weather is fabulous (most of the time). The humidity can be tough, but the tradewinds help. Of course, the beaches are close no matter where you are. The drawbacks are that it is SO expensive. Nearly everything has to be shipped in. Try paying $8 for a gallon of milk! My house in Boise would cost over $1 million here. Home lots are measured by the foot. So houses are very close together. Everybody knows what their neighbors are up to. We plan to retire in a year to two and return to the mainland, probably Boise. Unless a person is independently wealthy or their mortgage is paid off, it's tough to retire here. And the real reason is that there's only 3 true quilt shops on the entire flippin island!!! |
Funny you should ask because tonight on the way home from going out to dinner, I told my hubby that I never regretted, even for one day, that we chose this town. It is a college town with lots of cultural things going on and young people around.

I love Alaska.....in the Summer. The rest of the year it is rough dealing with the cold, ice and snow. I have reached that age where the cold really bother the arthritis.
We are hoping to move to the lower 48 soon. DH is looking to land a job before we leave. Hope it is very soon as the cold is coming quickly this year. |
To Navy Wife, I lived in Memphis all of my life. The last 22 years we lived in Germantown because of crime and crappy schools in Mphs. My husband and I were transferred to Texas 2 years ago. I have to tell you things are worse in Mphs. My husband was a deputy for Shelby Co. and the crime was totally out of control. It's a shame that my hometown was such an excellent place to grow up and the musical history[Elvis&Blues] was so great in the fifties and sixties. We still have family and friends there but my kids have moved to Colorado and will never move back. I don't think we will when it comes time for retirement. It was so cool growing up with people like Johnnie Cash singing in our church choir and seeing Elvis ride around on his motorcycle. Memphis was at one time known as the cleanest city in the world. My, how times have changed.Diane

What wonderful memories you have, diane, and how sad it is that Memphis (along with MOST of towns, cities) is changing. My hometown is like that; like the saying goes "you can never go back" That is one of the reasons I started this thread - to learn if everyplace is like that or just a few. Hometown cemetary in Spfld, Ill where Lincoln is buried has been having ALOT of vandalism - parents and GP, etc are there and the graves are really suffering. Even Lincoln's tomb had graffiti all over it. Sign of the times? Scary what the next generation will be facing.

I do not love where I live but I don't hate it either, but I am greatful that my son and daughtern in law bought a house with a mother in law apartment in the basement, so I have a place to live and someone to help me on my bad days. I have always dreamed of moving back to Az. or Washington but since my dh passed away that is out of the question now. So like I said I am greatfull to be living here even if I dont care for the area

Of course, if I hit a jackpot lottery I'd live everywhere, city, country, beach, mountains, US, tropical island, etc., but that's only dream talk. Anyway, I'm too old to make a big change, nice and comfy right here. May in Jersey |

I love where I have lived for the past 30 years. A semi rural area with small shopping strip but within 20 minutes of larger shopping centre. We moved out of the suburbs to get some clean country air, unfortunately DD has moved closer in to the city and is now 1-1/2 hours drive away from us.
As the local orchards are being sub-divided, suburbia is creeping closer and closer. |
I already got " Outta Dodge". I was born n raised in Los Angeles, Cali.... i left close to 15 years ago and will never go back. I almost moved to Texas for a man but he was going to move here so i didnt have to leave my kids,, but he passed away before. So unless another Mr. Right comes along from elsewhere, i will stay put in beautiful Boise Idaho, covered with green trees( Boise means " City of Trees") and a river thru the middle of town and parks the size of texas hehe.

I like where I live, quite and friendly. Beautiful tree lined street, horses, and fields. A small town.

I hate where I live, Eastern North Carolina. I only have 6 more years before retirement. Since my mother lives with my sister and myself, we'll be here until she is gone (a long, long time I hope.) Then my sister and I are leaving. Hopefully the mountains of North Carolina or Tennessee.
I don't like the weather, to hot!!!! It's a very poor area and high unemployment. In my work I deal with a lot of people who feel like they are entitled to everything free. What they don't realize is "free" means somebody else is paying for it. If they don't get what they want they get nasty and mean. I want peace and quiet. A community where I feel appreciated and a part of. I've lived in the same town off and on for my entire life and I'm treated like an outsider. Love my family, whic is why I stay and try to be patient. |

But since I've found quilting I would hate to leave all these wonderful quilt stores here. |
