Just curious...

I *think* that's the default when you first subscribe and some people just haven't changed it yet. They either don't want to, or haven't seen where to change it.

would love to know if anyone from my area is here. wish people would fill in there location

For me, that's a simple question to answer. I don't like the (Internet) places that ask you to "tell all" before you even know what the place is like. I want to hang out, and find out if it's a "Safe place" for me to share that information. Now that I've been here a while and like this place, then I went back and shared info on myself. I guess it's for my own safety, and if I leave a place and haven't given my personal information, then I never have to worry about it getting out without my permission.

It's the internet, you can never be too careful!

They must be hiding from the Quilt Police!

sisLH 03-05-2011 05:50 AM

Keeping it in hiding is better than the woman in Az that told kids names, school, home address. Now that's a safety problem! I would like to know who is in my area also -maybe to have a get-together.

You know, there's nothing wrong with telling a city, or the closet nearby large city if you live in a smaller suburban area. This way, it gives general location, but not enough where anyone could do any damage or hunt you down.

As a former I/T Professional, this is a pretty safe item, especially when you're not using your real name anyway. (Never use your real, full name or correct birthday - use the first/last/15th day of the month for security reasons).

Just my thoughts on security...I like everyone to be safe :)

I completely agree- you could use just your state, or area of a state, like, Eastern Pennsylvania- I like to know generally where a person is from.

My name and pic is there simply because I don't have anything great to show for my avatar, and I can't think up a clever name.

Charming 03-05-2011 07:34 AM

Just send a pm to the admin with the new name you want to be seen there and they will change it. Just did mine last week and they were very prompt about it.

I don't think you can't change it now. You have to kill it off and start over.

bluteddi 03-05-2011 08:37 AM

when registering, I rarely disclose all info.....
*I tend to list my state only....
*Freq will put my B/D off by one day ( I always go off the same direction in case I ever have to figure it out) ( such as , if my bb'day is the 3rd I put the 2nd)
*I never use a phone #.... if it REQ u to list one.. I again offset it by one number....I've been known to lsit my ex's phone # ( I didnt mind if he got on some cold callers list... heheh)
* I always use a "trash" email box until I knwo I want to communicate with someone... I can always chg it later
* I never list my " mothers maiden name".... I use my GRAND MOTHERS maiden name
* when it asks for ur childhood best friends name... I always use her MIDDLE name

I can get a little paranoid I suppose... but that me.
