I have been perusing this board for some time now and find it interesting how many quilters own a cat (or should I say are owned by a cat). Does cat hair make a quilt more valuable? I have owned two cats for many years - inherited them from my kids when they went off to school, and just couldn't part with them when the kids got married. I'm thinking that somehow cat owners are destined to be quilters. Does anyone else think the way I do?

That is so funny. I was never a cat lover, but when I recently got into quilting, I myself acquired a cat whom I just love. So maybe you are onto something here with quilters and cats................hmmmmmm! Very interesting☺

Not me. I am violently allergic to cats. I cannot even visit my daughter's home because she has three. This is also why I do not buy fabric at thrift shops or trade with anyone. I do like to watch them though, some are so beautiful.

I spent many years in the book trade, know many librarians and scholars (many of them are also stitchers or painters in their spare time) and all share their lives with cats. I think there is a definite connection with felines and the arts! A lot (me included) love dogs too, but cats definitely seem a constant.

We have one cat. I was always a dog lover and had at least one while growing up on a farm. I always played with puppies and never took to the kittens. When DH and I married he had two inhouse cats. One was outgoing and always sitting on places where I didn't think he should be and the other was very cautious. I absolutely fell in love with Joey the cautious one. We now have one we adopted from the wild who is loved to pieces. She is definitely like a family member.

Maybe its the inherent giving and caring nature of quilters that attracts them? Animals are very good judges of character, and I consider it a compliment that they want to spend time with us!

Not me. WE love dogs. I'm allergic to cats. They are cute from a distance.

Not me! My eyes swell if I get too close to a cat or dog.
We had 4 kids (split into 2 families) and the empty nest came AFTER 37 years. On top of that, being married for 57 years.....I don't want ANYTHING that needs to be fed or clean I am ready for ME TIME! I am getting to old to have to take care of anything, except quilting. June in Cincinnati |
Not me. My hubby and kids are allergic. :(
