Never seen a woolly bear (grew up in northwest PA), but lots of brats and not just at McDonald's!

I saw two this past month. First one was a little black at the head and the rest was brown and the one yesterday was more than 1/3 black in the front, less than a 1/3 brown in the middle and short black on the tail. Winter!

they make great cookies. had a neighbor in Ca that always let me come over and pick a bunch. I would mash them and freeze it til I was ready to make the cookies.

You're referring to Jingle's post about persimmons, and freezing persimmon pulp, right?

Otherwise, I think there would be fuzzy little brown and black bristles in the cookies (or white bristles if you live near Kay in Vancouver). But, then again I don't know what Earthwalker in Australia does with her "little blighters." ~~

I sure hope she was not referring to the little Wolly Bear Catapillers i will not eat a cookie again without looking for little bristles!

We used to see them in the fall in Michigan. One year when my youngest DS was little, he came to me with one on his arm and wanted me to take care of it. I told him it was ok because it was a caterpillar and it wouldn't hurt him. Well, I was so wrong because as soon as I told him that, it bit him. Needless to say that shook my DS faith in my judgment. I had never heard of such a thing happening. Now that my DH and I live in Florida, we never see the wooly creatures.
