Would like a pattern for a "shooting" vest.
 

My husband who is 80, is looking for a vest to wear when he shoots his 12 gauge shotgun. (Practice only.) Apparently, the vest has padded front shoulders where the butt of the gun is placed while firing.

If you know of a men's pattern, size 42, please let me know where to find it.

The one my dad had was a plain button up vest, available from all pattern companies. The shooting shoulder - right side for a right handed man - had a thick pad from the shoulder seam to the top of the pocket. Bruising tends to occur closest to the shoulder socket.The pockets were sewn into compartments for shells. And the shell compartments continued to the bottom of the vest. The vest was cut straight along the bottom and was made from cotton duck in camo shade. His was a hunting vest so the back of the vest had a large pocket the width of the vest, lined in plastic where he could put birds when he shot them. The vest would hold a whole box of shells in the compartments. Since your husband is older and if he wants to put the shells in the compartments it may weigh the vest more heavily than is comfortable for him, you might want to run straps from the front to the back between his legs to help keep the vest in position - particularly if he is stoop shouldered at all.
