Dogs handle name changes very well. It's recommended to give a new name with every change of ownership. Behaviorists often say to give them a positive name which doesn't sound like "no" (or whatever word you use in place of no).
For instance Cujo has the no oh and is negative in sentiment even when joking. Doesn't she also have other nicknames? Most animals go by a few names. Try one of those instead. Her pic reminds me of Pebbles. If you really don't want to change, maybe just alter it to Goa or Way-way (Wei Wei). Edit: You can make a name change immediately. There is no adjustment period in animals. Associate it with a treat and done. |
Could you change it to something that sounds similar? Maybe like Goy-Yay? She is adorable!

I have a Rottie mix I adopted a few years ago. His name was Thom when I got him. I have a son named Tom so knew that wasn't going to work. My grandkids helped me choose his new name-Gus. He ends up with three names; Gus or Augustus or Gustav. My one grandson calls him GusGus because in our indecision I suggested we name him Gustav Augustus. He learned Gus the first day we started using it. He comes to Gustav too; knows he is in trouble. My other dog, Heidi a great dane also learned her new name fast. Her first name was Miranda and I couldn't keep that. She loves her new name. I think they associate the new name with all the love you give them.

Oh yes you have got to change her name she is too cute to be called that but I am one to talk I used to have a cat named duffas. When my 2 oldest were little I called our cat duffas and that was what they called her from that point on. Mind you the cat wouldn't answer to anything else so I couldn't change her name.

I hope you come up with a cute name

Maybe change her name to something subtle....like Go Go or Jo Jo, then start dropping off the "away" part. Good luck, she sure is a cutie.

Then just call her mommy's girl. My dogs all have names, then they also have nick names, and they know them all. It's the tone in your voice that let's them know if they are in trouble or you want to snuggle.

could change it to Galloway....just a thought.
