Did anybody catch Lester Holt on NBC news tonite?
He was talking about the medical advances and how the wounded are treated, first where they are injured, then moved to Germany..

Anyway, they were showing them being transported in a huge big cargo plane, and then in the hospital - and a bunch of them had QUILTS IN THEIR LAPS....

I thought that was sooooooooo mondo cool...

When I go to Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) I see alot of the wounded warriors and they often have quilts with them. I really hate to go to the doctor because we see so many wounded warriors and they have so many more problems than I do. But, more civilians need to go there----It's a reality check!!!! But, they love their quilts!!!!

I didn't catch the show you were referring to but I quilt tops for the American Heros that get sent to Afghanstan for those wounded soldiers that are sent to germany on transport planes and the quilts help keep the wounded military personnel warm during transport. The soldiers get to keep their quilts and many of them bring them home with them when the finally get to come home. On the American Hero website there are so many letters and stories from the individual soldiers and their families that receive these quilts - it is very touching. Check it out if you want a doze of reality. I have done 84 quilts for them so far this year alone.

My new year project is to send quilts to my son in Afganistan for his buddies; he took his with with.

Bless you Candlequilter for doing that. If my son is ever injured I would definitely want him to be covered with a quilt that was made with love. I just sent him one..and 2 extras for whoever..
They truly appreciate all of the quilts they get, he just told me today that it is 80 during the day..and was 20 when he called me

I would love to donate quilts to something like this,but every one I have looked into are so particular about the quilts and how they are made. Is this one choosy about the details? I have lots of fabric I would love to sew into quilts for these heros.

our guild has done the simple strip quilts. We take them to the VA and they give them to returning wounded soldiers...

I have made 2 quilts for the Wounded Warriors and presented them to the receipients at the local VA hospital. My "in" is that I work with a guy who is ex-military and his wife is involved in the local quilt guild. They both helped make the initial contact at the VA hospital for me. Our warfighters are so very grateful for these "gifts". I feel we should be the grateful ones - they are putting themselves in harm's way to protect our freedom. (btw - there were no "restrictions" or "requirements" for the quilts).
