Yard Sale Find

2 Attachment(s)
I got this huge tub of material for 25.00, I measured out around 110 yards, some as much as 5 yards. When I got it home I discovered every piece smelled like cigarette smoke (ex-smoker here...and can't stand the smell of smoke) I thought Great I sure hope the smell comes out when I wash it (I sure didn't want to throw it away). So I got busy washing I used Wisk(laundry detergent) and decided to put Shout (stain remover) in the Bleach compartment of the machine....I can not believe it worked NO cigarette smoke smell. The material has been setting out on the bed for over a week now and it still smells Fresh. I am just glad it worked. Now to figure out what the heck I am going to do with all of it. Had I picked up a piece of the material and smelled it before I bought it I would have just left it there.....lesson learned.

What a great buy! .... and a super save! Washing that much fabric was a job but now you can make lots of scrappy quilt tops and more. Congratulations!

Great find!!! I was just looking at fat qtrs. given to me by C1bent and thinking of making a quilt with PP trees out of the greens I now have.(recently saw a photo of one on here) Fun having fabrics to use up, isn't it?

CookyIN 04-24-2014 10:44 AM

So glad it worked out for you. I'm also an ex-smoker and also can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke now. I always smell fabrics before buying in a re-sale environment. But if you had, you would have missed out on a fabulous score, so this bargain was just meant to be yours!

QuiltMom2 04-25-2014 03:55 AM

For that amount of material, I would gladly do the laundry ( not usually my favorite thing!) Congratulations on the find!

2manyhobbies 04-25-2014 04:25 AM

Wish I could bump into this kind of yard sale...but then maybe not. Lucky you, though.

roadrunr 04-25-2014 04:45 AM

Wow! What a find and for such a great price! You'll be able to make lots of quilts with all that fabric! Of course, there is so much fabric there, it will take you a long time to use it all. I see lots of charity quilts in the future for you!

Anything you don't like or want could be donated or sold, otherwise have fun. For $25. I would have been happy to wash it all.

thyme2quilt 04-25-2014 08:49 AM

I had the same experience. Bought a great tub of fabric but when I got it home, it smelled musty. I washed it a couple of times and it still didn't satisfy me. So out it went. And the smell test lesson was learned. Glad yours worked out!

MargeD 04-25-2014 10:05 AM

Despite having to wash all that fabric, I think you got one heck of a deal - so many beautiful fabrics.

Jingle 04-25-2014 12:28 PM

A great buy. Lucky you.
Took about a second to decide what I would do with it. I would just start making quilts.

sdeaaz 04-25-2014 02:59 PM
