Been a knitter for many moons but for the first time in my life I'm not living in an area with yarn sources. Walmart is, as usual, not a place to buy wool and/or wool blends. I'm wanting to knit socks and need to have a source for that kind of yarn. Are there any quliting knitters out there who know of a good source for buying yarn online that doesn't charges an arm and a leg???? I just placed an order with KnitPicks.com today and thoght they had decent sale prices but is any place better than KnitPicks. Thanks to anyone who can give me some leads.

I just closed my quilt and yarn shop. I have yarn for knitting socks, wool and other high end yarns. I'm selling some fab on here quite reasonable. I would be glad to help with yarn. I sell very at very low prices ( I just need to get rid of it way to much even tho I am a knitter) Just Pm me and I could send pics though your email. Thanks

My email address is.......xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Maybe you can also help me with another question I have. My DIL mentioned recently that she would like to have some wool socks and I told her I hadn't knitted socks by hand for many years but would give it a try. In the 60's I had a knitting machine (and still have that machine) on which I knitted socks for my husband. I could knit a pair of socks on my machine quicker than I could wash and (air) dry a pair.....which I could with the yarns of that period. My husband loved wearing 'my' socks! My DIL is in charge of a nursery/greenhouse and her feet always seem to be wet and she was thinking socks made of wool would wick the moisture away from her feet. Since she made her request I've knitted one pair using Patons Sock Yarn and a pair of tube socks with something I had in my stash which weren't wool but probably acrylic which I don't like for socks or much of anything else. I'm excited about
about getting back into knitting again and just today I ordered yarn from KnitPicks along with some long-cabled circular needles so I can knit two socks at a time. I love knitting with circular needes even for flat knitting. To say I'm pumped is an understatement!!!! Now if I can just keep one of my two cats from chewing on my yarn. The little Butt....but he's so cute I can't stay mad at him. ;-D
Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your rreply. Dottie

Wow! I forgot my question! Do you know of any other yarn beside wool that is good at wicking moisture? I'm not familiar with fibers such as bamboo, silk. What did you sell in your shop to be used as a strengthener for 100% wool? Something I could use along with 100% wool in the heel and perhaps in the toe areas which get so much more wear. Dottie
