YOLO list?

Wonder if anyone else had heard this expression? Instead of "bucket list" one of the walkers yesterday said that she just came back from Hawaii and they're using this term now. Your YOLO list ...... You Only Live Once .... it does sound a little more "exotic" doesn't it? (they had just done the zip line so got to cross that off their list)

ptquilts 05-12-2013 07:33 AM

I have heard of it, usually used by teenagers who are acting as if they had NINE lives instead of one, doing something really stupid like car surfing.

Maybe it's time for us more mature folks to take it over!

MaryMo 05-12-2013 07:42 AM

I like this term .... refers more about living. One time when I talked about my "bucket list", someone asked me how long I had to live ... I was a bit taken back.

On my YOLO List, then:

go hang gliding
go glider flying
visit Australia for an extended stay
own and use a hammock slung between two massive oak trees
hold my younger daughter's babies (she's 33 with no kids)
sail on Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay
eat a Waygu beef steak
attend a Broadway play
go to Houston for a week for the International Quilt Festival again (it's been 16 years!)

I'm sure there are other things I can't think of at the moment. :D

boy the two cars full of teens chasing after each other on our street several times around just now must be doing their list!! you only once!!

lynnie 05-12-2013 12:59 PM

when I was about 5 I did zip lining with my neighbor on in his yard. we took the cloths line, and tied it up a tree, and the other end down at the foot of the metal post that held the cloths line, used his moms towels and potholders to slide down. That was a blast, but he got in big time trouble for it.

Oh, I'm adding zip lining to my list!! Wheeeeeeeeee!

I too would love a trip on a zip line. However, would have to train self to use a silent type scream so as to not lose teeth.

Lol. That made me laugh.

took me awhile to figure this one out. Had to inbox my son on FACEBOOK what smh (shaking my head) meant. Then next thing I see my GD texting in script.

michelleoc 05-13-2013 06:08 AM

Ziplining is amazing! The only thing that I can think of on my YOLO list is flying first class. I'd love to go to Europe and see all the amazing cities there.

Lori S 05-13-2013 06:11 AM

I am getting to cross one of the list next week... going to Bali! I am too excited to sleep.

Daisy spot 05-13-2013 06:15 AM

It's easy what is on my list
going to the real disney land ( seen Paris too many times) for my son.
and win the lottery so we can buy another house ( don't like the neighbourhood here)

romanojg 05-13-2013 06:33 AM

I hadn't heard this one before. When I did it reminded me of one of my kids friends; Max. He would never say good bye to anyone; just see you later or until next time. He always said; there are no guarantees for tomorrow. He was full of love and fun. Last month, on my birthday and his dates birthday, they were both killed in a car crash. His girfriend just celebrated her 19th birthday and he was 22. It was like he always knew and tried to make the most of his life while he could. So many of us don't do that and I'm not meaning taking life threatening chances because that is stupid. But so many dwell on what isn't or what could be but don't enjoy what is. These are the ones who miss out on so much. I think I could handle the zip lining, definitely not the parachuting, I dont' even like to fly and refused when my young son wanted me to bungie jump with him. There are so many things in life to enjoy, including life itself and we should hold onto that. Be safe and enjoy what you want and try to make all who come into contact with you have something good to say about you when you leave. It breaks my heart when I hear of all of the young kids getting killed in speeding cars and other reckless things and alot of times these things are being done to prove they aren't afraid instead of because they enjoy it. Hold onto your bucket list and your YOLO list and do them because it makes you (or someone else) happy but be safe.

Hello my name is Dawn and I am a Sissy - La-La Girlie Girl. I see absolutely no good coming from jumping out of a perfectly running airplane-- or from the edge of a scenic cliff strapped to a kite--- or a bridge attached to a giant rubber-band---as to a zip-line after seeing a 20 yr old girl fall from one who will be in a wheel chair the rest of her days only made it too clear that I love having my feet firmly on the ground and my heart beating safely in my chest. But to all the Thrill Seekers among us Be Safe and Be Wise -NEVER sign a waiver releasing these outfits from their responsibilities concerning your safety and well being..

jeanharville 05-13-2013 02:30 PM

Stitchit, I'm with you.

ptquilts 05-13-2013 02:45 PM

Me too, stitchit - I have no need to get my heart pumping that hard. I don't handle excitement well. Contentment is more my style.

Jan,
I can take you sailing on Grand Traverse Bay in Lake Michigan....come on over and we will sail!! I'll be happy to help you out with that list.
I went paragliding last summer in Alaska (had an instructor with me)---so I can cross that one off. My husband didn't believe that I was crazy enough to do it. I LOVED IT! You only go around once, so do all that you can while you still can.
I only jumped off the side of a mountain. I would never jump out of an airplane....don't have the guts to do that one.

Sails,
You have no idea what reading that offer did to my heart!!  #soaring!
It may not be this year, but I would take you up on a sail for real as soon as I could! Watch out what you offer; I might show up at your door with my life vest and suitcase in hand, LOL!:D

I am a very lucky/fortunate woman. I have traveled in all 50 states many times and have traveled all over Europe and Asia. I would like to see Ephesus, Turkey though. Not much on my YOLO or bucket list now. I think I live to quilt and to enjoy life with my DH and my DP's (dear pets). I do think it's important to have goals and things we want to do in life.

tessagin 05-14-2013 06:50 AM

Used a lot on FACEBOOK and texting.

Only jumped off the side of the mountain? Jumping off a roof can kill you! Glad you enjoyed your paragliding! I'm not that brave!

Well I have several. Go to Macys Day Parade, I think I am doing it this year IF we can find a hotel. Oktoberfest in Munich, Chuck wagon Cook off, and Huston International show.
