my son lives in San antonio, and he has a little pool for his 2 year old..the wasps seems to think it is a gathering place / watering hole for them!
when i was down there i hung up a couple traps..and they really didn't work. i know they are wanting the water..but what else can they do? advise anyone?

The birds (crows i think, big noisy black things) ) hang out too..they just swoop in and grab a butterfly or some other flying bug! they have probably never tasted a big juicy worm from the ground!

For some bugs, I don't know about wasps, if you fill a jar half full of sugar water and put a funnel on the top of it they will fly down the hole then can't get back out. You might try a couple of jars sitting about 12-15 feet away from the pool. Or, someone on here said that powdered laundry detergent will keep insects away. Of course the kids might have a bubble bath instead of swimming pool. . . .

When we go camping we set a couple bowls off to the side with mountain dew in them and they wasps fly in and drown, don't bother the kids that way.

We make a 'smoke'..like citranella, or just something to smoke so they will leave!

My advice would be to find the wasp nest and destroy it.
